Default is my clutch on the way out

in the last few months had no problems with the clutch.. 9k fast gear changes work fine..

However, on a hot day the other day i though i would just try a 6.5k dump of the clutch.. just to see if the wheels would spin and i would fly off the line.

I moved forward slowy.. the engine spinning fast .. but not like the wheels.. then i could smell the clutch..

Haven;t done it again.. and all seems fine.. fastish starts are still fine..

should be fine but i wouldn't keep doing it
as long as it doesn't take twice as long for the gears to catch/engage

Same thing happened to me last week pal. My clutch was stinking for hours afterwards. The clutch was obviously slipping which caused this. The problem is, my car was in the garage 3 weeks ago for a suspected new clutch release bearing (at only 13,500 miles! - I've only owned the car for 500 of those!). While it was there for the diagnosis they told me it needed a new gearbox! I'd get yours checked out pal if its still in warranty.... Can you hear a whirring noise when the engine is at idle that disappears as soon as you puch the clutch pedal down?

Mine's in the garage today so I'll let you know the outcome buddy.

looks like you didn't drop the clutch fast enough. you can try it again, but make sure you drop the clutch fast ie left your foot off the clutch as fast as possible or sidestep the clutch. it'll grab and spin the tires.

a foolproof way of knowing your clutch is going is to cruise on the freeway and then floor it. if you're engine revs go up fast, but your speed isn't... then you know your clutch is on its way out.

Joper, you'll be happy to know that when they took my gearbox out the clutch looked fine. I'm now back in my sexy baby with a new gearbox and a smile on my face! (By sexy baby I meant my car and not my girlfriend - it's all about priorities ) So I'm sure your clutch will be fine too pal.
