i don't mean the heim joint itself is weak, i'm sure one heim joint can support the whole weight of the car. in my opinion, i don't it it provide enough surface area to weld to the main cross beam. but i'm not a mechanical engineer, so don't take it to heart.

i haven't seen any report of the Chase hitch failing on anyone, but i just feel better knowing the hitch is a little more secure.

Beautiful!!! Looks like a really good job.

Do you have to register that trailer? Also, I'd be interested in a pic without the hitch on as it looks like the mounts totally disappear!
in PA, you are require to register a trailer. i went to register it yesterday and ran into some problems. the laws are kinda complicated when it comes to homemade/kit trailers. it's needs all original manufacture paper work, recites, and get inspected at a certify mech shop. since i got the trailer used from out off state and the original owner didn't register it in the first place, so we didn't do tittle transfer. it's a complicated mess trying to register the stupid trailer. i'm thinking of just buying a new one from HF for $200 just so i can have all the paper work to register it. i don't understand why it's so much easier to register a reconstructed vehicle than to register a little dinky trailer. but you don't have to register a tow dolly, where's it's more dangerous to tow a whole car. sorry for the rant.

the mounts are not visible at all when the hitch is off. i forgot to weigh the mount to see how much weight is add to the vehicle.

I am an engineer (aero) but I didn't do any sort of analysis of the Chase hitch. However, inspection of it in person leads me to have complete faith in its strength. (Within reason, of course.)

i'm an engineer also (software) .
like i said, i haven't seen anyone reporting problems with the Chase but my main motivation to build this thing was to save some money and i just like building stuff. my dad is a mechanic, i've been working on cars since i could walk, so i'm always tearing things apart and building stuff.

That's some mad skills!
Wow, I'd LOVE to have a trailer hitch like that!
And find a wrecked s2k to build a custom trailer!
Man, nice work!

Yeah, I almost built my own for exactly those same reasons, including that I like working with my dad as a fabricator. But having seen the Chase hitch, I actually think it's built better than I would have done given any reasonable amount of effort and cost.

Great fabrication.... but I just can't get over the fact that people use their S to tow.

Oh...did I mention that 2 years ago I saw a Vette z06 driving on the QEQ highway in Ontario, Canada towing a BOAT?!?!? Yes, a boat. I don't mean a raft or canoe, I mean roughly an 18' bowrider type deal. Insane.

But doesn't a Z06 have more torque than a full size truck?

must be a weird site on the highway.
