Default My first road trip!

So tomorrow my girlfriend and I are driving down to Panama City Beach and meeting 8 or 9 of our friends for 5 days. We're really excited especially now because we just decided to take my S2000 over her car that we were planning on taking. She has a 1996 Civic EX 5Spd. I'm not exactly crazy about putting an extra 1000 miles on my car, but the fun of having the convertible (and a hot car) on a road trip sounded too fun to pass up!

If anyone here has taken their S on a roadtrip, please share your story as I'd like to hear how it went. I know there isn't a ton of room, and the passenger seat isn't the most comfortable seat in the world, but we took the "fun" road instead of the "practical" one it seems.

Let's hear some stories/experiences

BTW I'll be taking a ton of pictures, and if my S is in any I'll post them up here for everyone to see.

i went to vegas from los angeles, my balls went numb after about 2hrs. i wouldn't do it again unless i had to. but some people drive cross country and don't seem to have a problem. it should be fun if there is no traffic so the wind can blow.

I've driven an S from Chicago -> St. Louis -> San Antonio over a couple of days, and did St. Louis -> San Antonio on numerous occassions with no issues. Honestly, I found the car very comfortable to drive long distances. Those trips were all alone.

Did St. Louis -> Chicago for a weekend with the g/f. Again, we had no issues other than her desire to buy something at Ikea that didn't fit in the trunk.

Longest I think I ever spent at a stretch was ~15 hours. Comfy. Fun compared to the explorer that I'd done the trip in ~20 times previously.

Don't worry about the extra miles. You bought the car to drive it. It'll be fun to have the vert at the beach. The g/f will feel like hot stuff tooling around in it. You'll get laid. Life will be good.

I had no problem doing LA to Vegas. It was actually quite fun to hit 100 in the desert night. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I've taken both my S's on roadtrips of over 1000 miles with a couple of different GF's I think it's a great roadtrip car, especially if you can spend time off the interstates and make plenty of stops for photos, snacks, or whatever. A completely different experience than slogging along in a hardtop. I don't run with a spare or jack so that gives a little extra cargo room. Pack using several small bags rather than a couple of large ones.
Have FUN!!
Mike

You know one of the things I love most about my S? I have absolutely no concern about how many miles are tacked on. The car is proven to last well past 100k miles and is staying in my garage for a long, long time... so who cares?

At any rate, it's a great car for a road trip... for the driver. I think sitting shotgun in a sportscar for any period of time would start to get old. At least one of you will have a blast though.

Oh she'll try and drive it a lot. I'm sure I'll be riding "bitch" quite a bit of the time

I and my wife just took a trip to LA from SF. The trip was about 400 miles. We took the scenic route (PCH-1); the trip was longer. We had the top down most of the way (until it was dark and foggy in Malibu). We enjoyed it so much, we are planning another trip to Vancouver, Canada.

Cheers,
