Default My new s2k is shocking!!!!

No, seriously, this thing is friggin shocking me really bad! Almost every time I get out of the car it shocks the hell out of my hand when I touch the door to shut it.

The only thing I can think of is that its possessed and is pissed off at me for the repeated trips to 9 grand so it decides to pay me back when I get out of the car. But seriously I think I have heard of happening with a bad ground. Is this what could be causing this?

Are you sure it is not static electricity that is generated from moving around in the leather seats? I have that problem with another car that has leather seats. When the air is dry, I'd get a shock every time I get out of the car. But never have that problem with the S2000.

I'm not sure if its the leather. I have had plenty of cars with leather and never had shocks this bad. I mean they actually hurt sometimes! I swear I could see an arch of electricity at night.

My beater, a Honda Passport with cloth seats, shocks the pee out of me in dry weather! Hurts like heck sometimes. My s has never done that though. I suggest you start the car, get out of it and see if it still shocks you when you lightly touch it. If it does, it may be a ground problem. If not, chances are its a static problem. Do you keep the leather conditioned? Very dry leather may contribute to creating static electricity.

Usually all depends on the weather! Hit it with the back of your fingers before you close it

It doesn't hurt if you hold the metal part of your key and touch some unpainted metal part of the car with the key. The door latch inside the sill area, for instance. Also, if you hold onto some metal part of the car, like the door, as you get out, the static is never allowed to build up and you will not get shocked.

If it's really bugging you, maybe try some driving gloves?

Every time you get out, make a habit of touching the key to the frame of the door/car.
Make sure you're touching the metal part of the key with your hand too.
You won't feel it.

I think it is the synthetic shoes that you are wearing and rubbing on synthetic carpet and thus creating static electricity. I normally get it if I wear synthetic shoes in my Honda Legend but it hasn't happened to me in my S2000. However I did overcome the shock by holding on the door frame and in the case of the S2000 I suggest that you touch the metal part of the car whilst you get out of the car. This will ground transfer the static electricity via the door to the ground. It works every time. Try it nad let me know if it works or try changing to leather sole shoes.
