My S2000 meets snow for the first time
I don't want to sound rude or anything like that, but, I just can't belive that there's someone on this board driving with OEM tires ..ON SNOW!
I mean, how many times we've been discussed about this, how many post about accident that causes by doing this.
Check your engine oil regularly..., don't drive on snow with OEM tires..., here's where the secret compartment is, here where fuel door release is, do not dump the clutch ever so often(if at all), ...ya da ya da ya...
Sorry, can't help it.

regardless of how many times something is mentioned there are going to be people like me that don't read certain posts until it gains my interest...why would i care about posts about driving in the snow months ago when it is nice out? i have never had a car before that was fitted with tyres that are for use only in the summertime...this is the fourth sports car i've had!
it sort of gets to me when people take the time to lecture them on what a waste of time the question asked was.
if the question annoys you that much then just don't even look at the post geez.
you know i see these posts about 'which CAI is the best for my car' all the time but it doesn't bother me...it's a cheap normally first upgrade for your car...doing a search is just not as interactive as getting a question answered that you have asked. plus there are a lot of people just trying to get their question answered and not get yelled at.
thanks all for your responses!

(from a guy who has never owned a car with all season tires)

in the meantime ... the time you spent b*tching about the post could have easily been used to respond with an informative or constructive answer to this or any other thread...
btw How often do YOU think I should check the engine oil? and how come when i turn the key my S won't start?

i have read some posts on here about how bad the s2000 is in the snow. i thought most of it was exaggerated because the people were just driving too fast or they were used to their civic or something...well i was wrong. this is the worst car i've ever driven in the snow by far. this is my fifth rear wheel drive car and it is so much harder to move in the snow (only 2" mind you) that i couldn't believe it. my miata was like a f250 4x4 compared to this thing.
is it the tires or what? i have the potenzas on the car from when i bought it just nine months ago.
be careful out there fellow s2k owners!

The car is in the shop getting fixed as we speak (type).
Yeah, you read that the car is not good in the snow, yada yada yada.... and then the day comes where the weather report the night before said, "Light snow showers" and you woke up the next morning to more like, "medium snow showers and freezing sleet" but had to drive your daily driver 2 hours to an airport to catch a flight home for Christmas and figured that if you went slow enough, it wouldn't be a problem. For me, it wasn't a problem until the temperature dropped about an hour into my drive and the little bit of snow that was sticking to the highway froze. There were plows sanding the road, but it didn't help. That's what happens when an S2000 hits a concrete divider at about 10mph. Oh well, live and learn. It could have been much worse. There were about 5 other cars within a mile of where I bit it that either hit the same wall with much more damage or ended up off the right side of the road in a 15-20 foot deep ditch, which didn't look like it'd be much fun to go down into. If you note, there isn't that much snow in the ground in the pics above. I took them about an hour after the accident in Oklahoma City.
I plan on buying a used mid 90's Subaru Impreza before next winter and leaving the S in the garage. This is my 3rd RWD car and definitely the worst one in the snow with the OE tires. At the moment, I'm driving around in a rented Kia Rio.
I've help(and get help) many times from fellas member here without being a paid member, or in your own words, "my dues"(can't seem to find the policy).
B*tching?, it's a part of "interactive" with people. Geez, If I knew you don't(really) like to interactive with people(and their many different thoughts), I would have just type " use the search.." instead. The stove is too complicated, huh?, should have use the oven..
One more thing, while I never paid "my dues", I've never overlooked(and under appreciate) a warning from people who have been driven their cars through many winters as an exaggeration.
To your question about driving OEM in a very low temp, Nate, you're more likely going to damage your car or, if you lucky, somebody else property(s) and your life before you damage your tires. Try it, I'm insist.

Snow tires are a must! Summer tires certainly do not work in the snow.
Back in the early 90s... After returning from the Gulf War, I purchased a 92 CRX Si in Florida and drove it out to Colorado. Needless to say, I learned the hard way how tires impact driving in the snow. During the first snow fall (late October), that little CRX was spinning in circles without much control. Then BANG!! I hit a curb head on. About $1,500 worth of damage and this South Floridian learned the hard way what snow tires were made for. SNOW TIRES for SNOW.
After thought...If I lived where it snowed, I would have a second vehicle for those snow days. A big ol' 4x4 just for the fun of it.
