I just thought this would be a helpful reminder to everyone. My car, was locked, and the alarm armed. It was in my locked, detached, garage at my apartment complex. Somehow, someone got into the garage. Possibly I didn't shut the door all the way, I'm not sure. Anyhow, they got into the garage, started looking around. They took a few pairs of old speakers, the stock S2000 speakers and a cheap, blown, pair of Boston Acoustics. They discovered the Stock S2000 stereom but didn't take it. They moved their way to the car, and the windows were rolled down. The car was in my own, locked, garage after all. This is where the reminder comes in.

Reminder: If the windows are down on your S2000, people can get to your glovebox without setting the alarm off. Locking the glovebox is an option, but I'm not going to lock it everytime I park in my own garage. So they rummaged through the glovebox, found my Compaq Aero handheld computer ($450), which I rarely leve in the car, and the remote for the apartment gates, but they left behind my garage door opener, and my check book - thankfully.

Somewhere in the time that they were thefting these articles, they pushed the trunk release button. Either on accident or on purpose. The funny thing, is that I have Fiamm air horns. Very, very, very loud - especially in a small closed garage. The alarm went off, all kinds of loud honking started, and they got out of their very quickly. By the time I heard the alarm go off, realized it was mine, they had left the garage, shut the garage door (heard it close on my way to my door), and ran behind the apartment complex, or somewhere.

Just a reminder to keep your windows up, doors locked, alarm set - and possibly to not leave much in the car in the first place.

Man I'm sorry about your break-in. Doesn't seem like there was a lot of damage, thank goodness!

Let's have some discussion on this... Doors locked, windows up, alarm or no alarm do we get a slashed top or a smashed window? Or do we leave it fairly open as Wesmaster did and let them take what they want?

Sorry about the break-in. My friend just had his Type-R stolen 2 weeks ago. This is becoming too common. I hate having to protect my stuff all time.

Like your said, at least they left your checkbook.

Anyway, I guess you got your car back from John Eagle. I'll PM you.

Dude, that bites...don't you hate that??

I am in the exact same situation as you but I sleep about 20ft from the garage door so if they even try to open it, I'll hear it. You might want to check into a proximity alarm (I have the Clifford Concept 600) to keep ppl from reaching in the car. I know you'd have to go after-market for it but peace of mind is worth it. I paid $700 installed...

P.S. - What part of town?

Check your check book to make sure they did'nt tear out a check in the back. Once somone stole my checkbook and put it back-- I have no idea where or when they did it, but by putting the checkbook back, I never new it was gone... Anyhow to make a long story short, the next time I got my statment and was balancing my checkbook I found a check written to somone [I forgot the persons name] for $800. A trip to the bank and I relised I was a victum of fraud... The bank fully reimbursed me, but the cops (at least to my knoledge) never found the person that did it.
The lady at the bank said that that is how thieves do it... b/c when a whole check book is missing people usually cancel that account right away and hence the crook can't use it.

Also, leave your most valuable stuff (IF you have to) in the secret compartment. If us S2000 owners have trouble finding it and we live with the car every day, then thieves are definitely gonna have trouble finding it.

Sorry to hear about your loss. At least they didn't damage your car. My old C5 'vette was broken into, smashed the passenger window, put it on cinder blocks, stole the wheels/tires and scratched the door and rocker panel ($9K damage/loss).

You could also get a pager for your alarm too.

you could get this....

Watch the video!!!!

http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/africa/9812/11/fl...me.thrower.car/

The Blaster squirts liquefied gas from a bottle in the automobile's trunk
through two nozzles, located under the front doors. The gas is then ignited by
an electric spark, with fiery consequences.
