I have decided to trade my S2K for a new Boxster S. I know this is not very popular in this forum, but I have serious doubts about long term reliability since I had the oil issue.

Anyway I agree that S2000 is avery special car. I am going to miss her, as I am going to miss this excelent forum.

Thanks to all of you for your help.

Special regards to Luis and DavidM.

Nothing wrong with a Boxster S except a higher price. It's a great car and I'm sure you'll love it. Be sure to stop in and tell us how you like it.

No doubt the Boxster S is an exceptional car - one that I would love to own ... if there wasn't an S2000, that is . If your only reason for switching is concern over reliability, than I will caution you that the Porsche has had more serious problems reported for more vehicles than the ones reported for the S2000. Just check in on any of the Boxster forums, like http://www.986board.com/board/986board.htm , and you may be surprised by the frequency and severity of Boxster problems. Along with many messages about how wonderful the car is (and it is a wonderful car), other messages included references to engines replaced under warrantee, check engine light coming on with frequency, chassis flex and creaking noise, shifter vibration, plastic window problems, etc. This will be the case in ANY enthusiast forum. ANY car manufacturer will have some units with problems, and as disapointing as it is for some of us to have them with the S2000, I don't think it is a good reason all by itself to switch brands, IMHO.

Hey, keep us posted on the BoxsterS ... come back and let us know how you're finding it and how you find it compared to the S2000. Plenty of room for BoxsterS on this forum and it'd be good to have someone here who can give us 1st hand feedback :-)

btw S2k_Spain, how long have you had your S2000? And are you getting the BoxsterS new or 2nd hand? Here the boxsterS costs literally 2x the price of S2000 :-(

David,

I have had the S2K for 6 months, and ( again ) I have not driven anything so near to a racing car.

The new car is new, black/light brown with 18" wheels, all leahter interior, sport suspension, litronic, a/c,cd changer and yes its much more expensive than the S2K ( S2K 6.5 Mill. pts vs 11 Mill. pts ex.rate 180 pts 1 $ )

By the way Porsche bought my car in 6 Mill.pts so only 7 % of value lost.

I wouldn't mind owning a Boxter S (if I had the $$$).

I too think the Boxster is a fine automobile. I just have a hard time justifying it's price.

For the price of the Boxster S, I'd consider the Corvette Convertible. I'm sure some of you guys might flame me on that one, but its my preference having owned a Corvette coupe before. Of course, the Boxster does have a nice exhaust note and the Porsche panache.

My girlfriend priced a Boxster 2.7 and it was just shy of 50k with the tiptronic and full leather interior as well as few options. This car didn't have the 17s, or a CD player. And there was no dealer markup either.

The Boxster is really a neat machine, and I love how the top stows, plus the idea of 2 trunks. But, is the Boxster a 10,000 dollar nicer car and the Boxster S a 20,000 nicer car? Tough call.

Of course, I'm getting my window replaced in the S2000 as a one time, goodwill gesture. I've been told its not a warranty item, and that I should invest in a tube that I place over the window mid-way through the lowering process. Doesn't that somewhat contradict having a power top?

I'm glad my dealer is nice to deal with and helped me score this one time deal. But it really makes me think. At some point, the Boxster is worth a little more money if you don't have to get out and put some tube over the window...

I too have some doubts on the durability of the S2000. But, for now being in college, I don't have funds to move up in the price scale, and the S2000 is relatively inexpensive for me to drive. Trading the Vette in for the S2000 and some cash was nice, plus scoring on the free oil changes for life leaves me with gas, insurance, and wear items as my only car expenses...

That would be hard to find in ANYTHING pricier...

enjoy!
it's a sweet car.
while i'd never trade the S2K for a Boxster, the Boxster S is a different story.

hope you have better luck with the reliability.
