Default My Silverstone got hit! =[

So a kid this morning decided to back up into my car at the university's garage. He went forward, didn't see any spots close to the exit so he quickly went into reverse and backed into me. All he said was "Sh!t, I didnt see you behind me". So we pulled to the side and I got all of his information. Hes got USAA insurance, i guess its like a miltary insurance and my neighbor told me they do things quick and well. But I was just wondering what I should do or could do. I called USAA and filed a claim today and will probably check up on it tomorrow. The plastic pieces underneath the fender and bumper got pushed pretty close to the tire, when I turn, it rubs, so I'm not going to drive my car any farther. So I was wondering what I have to do to get them to get me a rental car or a way of transportation? Does the insurance company usually come and check out the damge of the car and gives me the amount to go fix it or do they tell me to go to a shop and pays for the bill? I read a few things on here about people bringing their cars to a random body shop and the results looks like crap, I'm afraid that that is going to happen, can I request them to fix it at a Honda certified shop? Sorry for having so many questions, this is my first accident. Thanks!

Good time to get rid of the mesh grilles and get an AP2 front.

YES. I was just about the comment on the mesh grilles. This is a sign that your front needs a change. But in all seriousness...try to get an AP2 front out of it!

Find the local s2ki forum on this site and ask them for a repair shop recommendation. Take the car to them and have them quote the work. Make sure they quote using NEW HONDA parts, not used or generic. You're going to need a fender, bumper, inner fender, and maybe a headlight as a minimum.

The other guys insurance might try to quote non Honda parts in an effort to keep the estimate lower.

you have the right to go to whom ever to fix your car.the insurance co. will pay the shop .rental car will be covered for a car in the same class as what you have.dont take a sub compact.tell them you want something bigger.if your car is paid for they will cut you a check, all boby shops will do the work for the check and if it requires a little more money the insurance will pay the shop..good luck.

Not sure what "military insurance" means. USAA is a financial services company that serves it membership consisting of people in & retired from the military and their families. Auto insurance is just one of their services.

If you're eligible, definitely use them.

Get a recommendation for a shop from someone with first hand experience. If you bother to search you'll see that "Honda Certified" doesn't mean much. A good shop is a good shop. A bad shop is a bad shop. Not all good shops bother to get certified. Not all certified shops are good.

I'd keep mesh grilles even on an AP2 but that's probably because I've already had to replace one condenser within the first year of ownership.

Welcome to my world. Mine happened a few months ago. I have USAA as well and this really chapped my ass - my car got hit in a parking lot. They consider it a collison. It was parked, I wasn't in it, etc - and its a collison. How the F its not vandalism is beyond me. If someone had hit it with a bat, a tree limb, kicked it, keyed it, etc - vandalism - but hitting it with your car and leaving the scene - I would consider that vandalism. Regardless they wanted me to make a claim under collison, not comp. so I just said F it and am saving for Varis fenders.

Sucks. I have to point out that whoever painted your bumper last didn't use the right primer for ABS plastic bumpers. Paint should not flake off like that.
