so I met this s2000 owner. We had small talk, then he asked how long I had the car. I answered only maybe 2 months. Then he replied "Oh, so you haven't driven this car in the winter or rain?", and I said no...

Then he proceeded to laugh and shoots a "oh, have fun kid..." and drives away.

can i get a wtf?

what should i expect?
Where do you live, and what tires do you have on the car, and what condition are those tires in?

The Bridgestone S0-2 tires that came from the factory on the AP1 models are notorious for poor performance in the wet when worn, and poor performance when cold no matter what. In the winter they caught out a lot of owners when they drove like they normally do during the summer, and ended up in some pretty exciting spinouts.

I drove mine in everything last winter. Snow, freezing rain, etc. I have falken fk452 tires and I drove slow and stayed careful and I came out of it all with alot of experience and still had my S. Bring it on this winter!!

It doesn't snow in SoCal except in places like Big Bear, so I don't have to worry about driving through ice; however, the first time I drove my S in the rain, I downshifted from 4th gear to 1st and the car began skidding for a sec, which made me think, "I need to drive this car more before trying things like that again."

I made the mistake of taking my s out on a day they forecasted snow... didn't believe the weatherman. whoops...

I'll definantly be getting snow tires this year. I've heard the s handles pretty well with them on, so I shouldn't have too much trouble.

The day I got my S i drove it home with the top down, for 200 miles. Nice night. 3 days later here in Cincinnati, we got a huge snow storm and I had to leave work after about an hour of being here. I work around 22 miles away so by the time I made it close to home there was 3+ inches on the ground. S didnt go anywhere!! Got stuck had to have my step dad tow me home. Took him an hour to get there to tow me the mile I needed to go. By the time I got my car in the garage there was about 10" on the ground. 17" total that day!! I had to sit and let my S chill in the garage 3 days after I got it

What I learned: Find a ride to work on snow days.

I woudn't consider owning the S as an only car up north. RWD + no traction control scares the crap out of me.

Yeah, you need winter tires. This will be my fourth winter on Dunlop Winter Sport M3s, and those tires have been fantastic in rain, ice and snow.
I was checking those out on Tirerack. Do you run those staggered or not? I heard not running 245's in the rear isn't a good idea, but narrow tires are better in the snow and ice, yeah?

[QUOTE=thebig33tuna,Oct 14 2008, 06:22 AM] if you're driving it this winter, get winter tires.
