Default My windshoeld developed a crack

I got in the car today and noticed that on the drivers side, near the A pillar, a crack has developed, it starts in the black area near the dge of the windshield and goes about 4 inches in towards the center. Has anyone else had this problem before? Could it be because of the extreme cold we have had lately? Thanks

I had a Civic that had this problem. The windshield cracked twice with no sign of any damage at all. They wanted me to claim it on my insurance the second time. I lost control! I took the car back to them and told them that if they didn't fix it I was going to picket outside their dealership. I also told them that if it cracked again, they were going to have to replace the car under the lemon law. Needless to say, they gave me a nice loaner and kept my car for several days to make sure the problem was solved.
If it happened on its own, there could be any number of things causing it. If I remember correctly, mine had a bad weld around the windshield frame and was putting pressure on the windshield. There are a number of things that could cause this including the windshield frame being bent or the frame of the car being bent. DO NOT let them try to get you to repair it through your insurance company. If you do, you are accepting blame.

Try to stop the crack now before it spreads. I had a little star crack caused by a rock and I did'nt fix it, now the little star has spreaded out into a wish bone crack thats about 1 feet in length. Funny thing is that my insurance does'nt cover it. Should they?? The S2000 is know for weak windshields.

I have this exact same crack. It's so clean and in a straight line that I don't know how it was caused. The only thing I can think of is that I had to reinstall my strikers recently (the screws came loose) and maybe I over-torqued. Did you do anything like that?

Hey, a similar occurance happened to me last week.

Somehow, I didnt notice until it was too late, a 10 inch crack that developed starting at the very top of the windshield, right against the molding.

it was a single crack, wasnt spider'd at all.

I called my Honda dealership, and they said that they'd only replace it if there was absolutely no trace of any rock chip that was along any part of the crack.
They said even if the chip was the size of a pinhead, it would null the warranty.

I ended up just getting it replaced, cost $404 out the door.

right now it's still about 1 inch long.

I don't think it's cause by extreme cold weather since my car is in SoCal all the time.

The best bang for your buck when it comes to auto insurance, in my opinion, is "Full Glass" coverage. I always include it in all my auto policies and have had many windows and windshields replaced over the past twenty five years for absolutely $0. Not even a deductible applies and they don't increase your premium when you have a claim. I used to live in Brooklyn, NY and in one year had my windshield broken twice and side windows smashed in three times. Didn't cost me a dime, so the slightly higher extra premium was, and still is, well worth it. It's damn inconvienient and annoying, but it's nice to know that you won't be out of pocket.

I ended up finding a pock mark today, and my friend reminded me that we had hit a rock the other day on the highway (can't believe I forgot that). It has grow several inches and I am going to go get it fixed tomorrow. I believe I have full glass coverage, so we will see what happens. Does anyone know if Honda stocks the required parts for this?
