Default MY04 for a daily commuter

I'm considering using the MY04 for a daily commuter. I'll be driving ~150miles each way.
What should I expect for comfort, MPG and future maint. cost...etc?
TIA

Is that 150 miles each way? As in 300 miles a day? Forget the S and get a home closer to work!

Mine is a daily driver, too, and I absolutely love it. I also drive 100 miles to another town every Friday and then back Sunday night and enjoy every second. That said, I don't think, even as much as I adore the car, I'd choose it to make a 300 mile commute everyday.

Not the best choice for this much daily driving, IMO. Mileage seems to range from 21-26 mpg. I understand tires are expensive, but I haven't had to replace them yet.

Basically it depends on your age, the distance covered each day, how in love you are with cars and your S2K. Generally speaking it is best to drive a 6 cylinder engine eg. BMW 328 to work and drive your S2K when fun is required. Too much noise, too much of a response in every way. You do not need that at 08:00 Am, neither at 20:00 Pm.
Finally ask yourself a question; Why did I buy this car? To go to work every day? If yes, I think you have bought the wrong car!

for that distance i think that the key will be the roads you take... if stop and go or boring straight roads- get another car for the commute and the s for weekend fun.
our car is not a luxury car- it is a machine to be appreciated, and one that is very responsive to driver input. imo, its an adult toy...
i drive 8 miles to work, but through areas with almost no speed limits (next to airport) and some decent curves. its a perfect daily driver for me!

gj530,

I daily drive my '02, but my commute is only about 40 miles each way. About 15 miles of that is through curvy mountain roads, so I have a lot of fun with it. My car currently has just over 53k miles.

Comfort is fine on the highway. Although the S2000 is pretty bouncy on bad roads, most highways around here are smooth enough so that's not an issue when commuting. I drive highway 17 every day and it's a blast.

I don't track my gas mileage so I don't know about that. I do have to fill up several times a week due to the small fuel tank, though.

For me, the main maintenance costs consist of tires and oil changes. Since I drive highway 17 all the time, my tires go fairly quickly. I use Kumho Ecsta Supras, which are cheaper than the stock tires, during winter to save money. Oil changes are frequent since I drive a lot. Every 5k miles, which is maybe 2 months for me, I change it with just over 5 quarts of synthetic oil, which is around $25-$40 depending on brand.

I have no experience with the '04 though, so I don't know how much of this still applies.

I use the S as a daily driver and for any distance around a 100 miles or so it should be perfectly fine to use but I completely agree with jmc1971 above.

i will guess that mpg depending on traffic and your use of the redline will be above 24 mpg. my cruise range is about 240 miles based on average mpg of mixed driving of 21-22 mpg, my add fuel light goes on when i am at 10 gallons. if you do not tire after a 200 mile trip in the s then you will not tire using it to get to work, my commute is about 11-18 miles each way with a good 50/50 mix of freeway and blvd...depending on which route i take.

I drive a short distance to work & the only time I switch to a beater is for ice & snow (neither of which you'll have to worry about). My mileage is in the low 20's for local roads & the upper 20's on the highways. Of course, that's for conservative driving, it drops down a lot when I vtec!

Only expenses have been oil & tires (changed the rears @ 15k). Most people think (or know?) I'm crazy but I've never had a car that's as comfortable on long drives as this, top up or down. I've had a couple of trips over 10 hours & I was always ready for more.

Helps to get to work every day to know how much fun the drive there will be!

The weather being so good where you are, my advice:

Go for it!

Thanks for all the replies.
I should mention that this will be short term (6mo max) until I settle in my new location.

Although it is one of the most enjoyable cars I've had the privilege of owning I would never consider it as a daily.
