Default MY04 First Oil Change

I got my 2004 s2000 late july. Its almost december and i have about 41xx miles on it. Im used to changing the oil very 3k miles for my old prelude but now since the s2k is new, i dont know if i should change it about now, or at about 7500.

When should i change my oil?

Also, what kind of oil should i use? For the prelude, i used Red Line Synthetic. I know going synthetic early is not good, so which one should i go for? Mobil 1? Castrol GTX? Maxlife? Chevron? HONDA??

Manual recommends 3750 miles for 1st (and subsequent) oil change(s). From what I have read here and elsewhere, the switch to synthetic shouldn't be made till about 10k miles.

at honda they say to have a first oil change around 4500 to 5000 miles, depending on how your oil levels are.....(thats what they told me anyways) . and you shouldn't switch over to synthetic till your second oil change..

p.s. check your oil regularly, especially after hard drives... you might have to put more oil in once in a while...

I'm in the same situation, approaching the first oil change. Do people think it's best to have the dealer do the first change (cause of the "special" honda break in oil)? Or just do it on my own?

I figure wait till after 10,000 to go synthetic....

I've got 5,000mi on my '04 and I just did my second oil change. I did the first change at 3,750. At that time I used Castrol GTX and added a bottle of MaxLife engine oil additive. According to Roadrage the Maxlife has a very high concentration of Molybendium a metal hardener that is in a lot of break in oils. I felt fine removing my Honda break in oil early by adding the Maxlife to my first oil fill. Now that I'm at my 2nd oil change I used straight Castrol GTX. I plan on using the Castrol one more time before switching to Castrol Syntech around 10K mi.

At the time of my first oil change I also changed the transmission fluid to GM Friction Modified Synchromesh and my rear differentail to LE 607. at 3,500mi my rear diff fluid was black and had a lot of metal filings in it so I was glad I did it.

wow you have the same car as me and in the same location

i did my oil change at around 3800mi and did it at the Honda Dealership Express Change because it was free

After that I used Castrol GTX at around 7800 mi and will do again at around 12K mi until I switch to synthetic after 1yr/15K mi.

I did mine at like 3900 and did it at the dealer as it was free too.

Since then i've changed it only at the same dealer now (3 altogether). Just regular dino oil for me. I want everything to be done at the dealer. I got too lazy to do them myself, and no way in hell is jiffy lube going to touch my car.

Chevron Supreme 10W-30
Motorcraft 10W-30
Pennzoil 10W-30

Take your pic. These are three of the best dino oils available on the market today.

Use one of these until at least 10,000 miles and then switch over to the synthetic of choice...or stay dino.

My manual and service writer say 7,500 miles for the first oil change. There are special break-in additives in original oil.
