Default MY04 Performance Tires

There is one "hating" of the new MY04 that I agree with - the new tires are probably not thre max tires for dry weather performance. Bananannie and I have had a few exchanges.

I just searched Tire Rack, and here is a complete list of mfrs. that make tires for the MY04: Pardon any typos or misspellings.

Bridgestone:
S-03
RE050 (duh)

Continental:
ContiSport Contact2 (I think these come on the E55 AMG's)

Dunlop
SP Sport 9000

Goodyear:
F1 GS-D3

Kumho:
Extsa MX

Michelin:
Pilot Sport

Pirelli:
PZero Rosso Asimmetrico
PZero Nero (This are made in US and supposed to be good deals - anyone have experience?)

I can tell you the Ecsta MX's made by Kumho are quite good... likely what I'd try first.

I've read reviews that the CONTIs aren't particularly good in the wet, although I've heard (no pun intended) that they aren't too noisy. I'm going to go with a set of S-03's, ever see those Bridgestones demolish the Michelins on a wet F1 track?

Consider sizes 225/45R17 and 255/40R17 too. You may need a yellow box for that though to keep your speedo accurate so check out www.ricks2k.com if you get em in that size

The RE050s are the same OEM tires used on the Enzo. Just curious why so quick to change? What are the complaints about the tires?

I just bought and black 04 and I am pretty pleased with tires. (I wish it would stop raining!!)

I found Dunplop SP9000s on the car when I bought it secondhand. They have a treadwear rating of 280, but I really can't recommend them for max performance. They are supposedly good in the rain, too, but I spun in the rain on the 'Ring with them!

Also, they squeal like little piglets!

Front tyre life was really good though. 10k miles on the fronts, and they still have 7mm left. This is including 1400 track miles.

I was thinking Toyo Proxies RA-1s when I burn through the RE050s. They should be pretty grippy, not sure how they would handle in the rain.

Any thoughts??
