Default MY07 leather shift boot sagging

like most people, the leather sags so that there's like an inch of the metal/composite showing, and it looks sloppy. i unscrewed the knob, unraveled some of the leather, then replaced it, and it stays up pretty much all the time, but it still doesn't look that good. i'd prefer it if the leather was tightened up, and the boot was more pyramid-shaped rather than dipping way down and coming up at a steep angle. am i neurotic?

is there an "official" way to keep the boot up flush with the knob? i guess there is a little gizmo thingy with some other shifters, but i like the stock one enough.

see picture below:

Yes you are neurotic!

But I had the same issue till I got the Rick's Countersunk knob which lowered the height of the knob enough the keep the boot flush against it. I don't have another solution

I think the way you did it is the best solution. That's what I tried doing but I couldn't get my leather to unravel.

Or you can get the Rick's Shift Knob... lol.

Oh... btw... you should really invest in a Swifer Duster... your car is really dusty... hehe.

haha, yes it is a little dusty. i will go to lowe's this afternoon to get a rubber washer and a swiffer duster! it's tough to keep the black interior clean with the top down all the time. i swear i drove through a dust storm (through construction areas) last week and this is the result of it.

thanks G127.

The same thing drove me crazy about mine so i pulled the console off with the boot still attached and zip tied the part of the boot that can't be seen (in your case the part that you pulled up) to the shifter. After i put the console back on i had to make some adjustments but it's managed to stay in place for several months. Kind of a pain to do since you can't actually see what you're doing but it worked. Then i still didn't like it and got a JDM Civic Type R knob .

I wouldnt worry about that. It's like titties man. They'll sag over time. NO big deal. Mine was already sagged when I got it. HAHAHAHA

MannyS2K, I ordered an exact same shift knob. Does it sit any lower than the stock one? Mine is still being delivery.

Spoon countersunk Ti knob and the AxialFlow shifter:

(a perfectly good excuse to drop 400 bucks fixing a small problem, right?)

It's countersunk so it sits slightly lower. Unfortunately this knob is lighter than the OEM but it makes up for it for feel.
