Default Mystique of S2000 is fast dissapearing......................

Well atleast here in southern cali

Just two and a half months ago when I got my S2K there were far fewer of them on the roads here. It seems mind boggling how the numbers of stooks I see on the roads are going up almost every day!!

I actually sense a decrease in the head turns/pointing/staring etc.....

Is the exclusivity of our car soon to be a thing of the past. Within the next year, will the S2000 become as common as the Boxster??

Seems like there are many people who may just be buying the S2K for aesthetic reasons alone with no regard for its performance capabilities.

Just a disorganized rant...... I kind of liked having a super exclusive car...........guess that wont be true for much longer.

Regardless of hown many there are on the road, my stook remains one awesome car

If you bought yours for a "super exclusive car" then you paid too little and got the wrong car. I see them more now too. I have seen three just like mine in my city, plus a for sale 00' red, and the dealer has two right now.

Agreed.

I also think that many people buy the S2000 thinking it is Honda's version of the Mazda Miata.

However, once these people live with it awhile and realize how much more hard core it is than a Miata, I bet they'll be trading S2000s back in to their dealers for something else.

I wouldn't be surprised if, for a period of time, there are going to be many used S2000s on the market and this will, and least temporarily, depress their resale value.

In the long term, word will get out about the S2000's true demeanor and far fewer buyers will make this mistake.

I know how you feel. Just today I saw 3 other stooks on the road. I used to go for days without seeing another one. The bad part is that most people don't know that this car is much faster than most. When they see that it is a honda, they think it is a me too from honda to compete with the miata. I actually had a lady comment on my enthusiasm for the car by saying "I can see you are an enthusiast. I bet some day there will be a boxter or Z3 in your garage." WTF is that all about? People can be such idiots! This car eats those cars as a snack!

I don't know, I sort of like seeing more of them around. I was hoping to create a small S2000 club for my area, but the guy in town with the yellow one is a prick, and the rest of the peeps are ancient...definitely giving me that classic "mid-life crisis" feelin' when I look at them. The exclusivity thing is cool, but no matter, my next ride will be a used Skyline R34 GTR imported straight from Japan with under 20K on the clock, then we'll talk exclusive.

This is already happening. There is a terrific amount of churning of these cars in the DC area.

I believe Arthur C. Clarke said it best:

"The human mind has anastonishing capacity to adapt; after a while, even the incredible becomes commonplace."

Moneeb-

I somewhat agree with you. Since I also live in S. Cali. I have seen the increase in cars on the road. I think it's a combination of many things. Increased production, prices coming down, winter being over, etc.

I still don't see anywhere near as many of these on the road as I do Boxster's or 996's. And most of the folks I see are really cool. Last weekend, for example, my fiancee and I met a very nice older guy who has one of the first MY2000 cars. His red stook was immaculate and only had about 5K miles on it despite it's age. It is somewhat of his garage queen in that it remains covered in the garage except for those perfect days. He is an enthusiast and uses the car, but he is kind of hoping to keep the miles down banking on the car being worth a ton of cash in 20 years.

This guy has nearly the exact opposite perspective as I do (we bought the car to drive it and use it for everything except commuting). He is far older than me, seemed to be quite well off since he told me he was also considering a Z8, but it was cool that the car bridged the gap and we had a great conversation at the gas station for 20 minutes.

He wasn't really interested in joining the board but was very cool.

My point is, after all that rambling, that lots of cool folks from all walks of life are getting to experience this special car. That makes me feel a lot better about seeing two a week instead of none other than mine.
