Default Nastinupe is Back!

Well... after selling my MY00 Black/Black S2000 and getting a MY02 BMW M3 Convertible, then selling that and purchasing a MY05 Acura TL A SPEC I have come full circle and am finishing the paper work on a MY 04 Black/ Black S2000 that is already heavily modded. It is complete with a Compech SC, Comptech Exhaust, built in lazer/ radar dector/ touch screen monitor built into the dash, DVD player, and multiple sway bars.

And to make it even better, the exterior of the car is 100% stock... other than the exhaust tips of course. The car has the OEM front and rear spoiler and only had 21,000 miles on it. I had the car inspected by CarLand Honda in Roswell, GA and everything is in order with the car. It just needs some new tires and front brake pads.

I am purchasing the car for $25,000 even and finalizing everything on Wednesday.

Cons of the car: A few really small dings and scratches on the body, but nothing major. Also, the transmission was replaced about 2 months and 1000 miles ago by the Honda dealer. Car was in a small fender bender and a front panel had to be replaced.

Other than that, the car seems like a great buy. Adding up all the mods that were done, I estimate that about $10,000 was invested into the car.

I look forward to posting pictures of my new toy. I'm keeping the TL so this is going to be strickly a weekend car.

I looked at several alternatives, all for around $25,000 including the following:

2001 Boxter (Boring, bland, and just too old looking)
2000 Vette (too sluggish in the turns)
2001 M Roadster ( Almost purchased for the 315 hp S4 engine, but had nightmares from my previous M3 experience)
2006 Miata hardtop (Not enough power but a ton of extras and great in the the turns... even better handling than the S2000)
2003 Z4 (The front nose was just too ugly, but nice 6 cylinder)
2006 Pontiac Solstice/ Saturn Sky ( I just couldn't do it, I couldn't buy a pontiac/ Saturn... and they were also under powered as well)

So I'm back with the car that I always wanted out of my first S2000. Bigger tires, DVD player and a monitor. Supercharger. Glass rear. built in radar/ lazer detector, etc... and all for a reasonable price! I look forward to going back to the Dragon with my new and improved S.

Yea, it seems like it. I really wanted an 05 White, but with all these mods for this price I couldn't turn it down. The only thing that I am going to do to this car is buy the Navigation System/ Brain for the Alpine system that's already installed in the car and the little side skirts, which are pretty cheap.

I want to keep the car completely stock on the outside. It's going to be a great sleeper.

Yea, you realize what you have after it's gone. And it's funny... after all these years and so many "new" cars out there, the S2000 is still my pick. It really shows what a great value that this car is. And even more now than before.

I paid $29,000 for my MY00 in 2002 and I paid $25,000 for my MY04 in 2006. Both cars had 20,XXX miles on them but this one has $10,000 in mods and the 2.2 L engine and 17 inch tires and a glass rear window. If you do the math for negative inflation over 4 years, that's like me paying $23530.00 back in 2002 for this car, which is an exceptional value.

So now that the cars are starting to age, what are the main problems that people are starting to see on them? Also, with the Comptech SC and exhaust, how much hp do you think that my car makes at the wheels?

Yeah, amazing value! I agree, man. The fact is, though, that you're getting a super deal because you're not the average buyer... These mods despite their cost, are worthless (and even a detriment) on the used car market. So, good on you.

Main problems??? MY04-05 is like a rock as far as I've seen on the forum, nasti.

As far as power... I'm not sure. You should dyno this thing and see.

I'd be interested in hearing about your handling comparison w/the MX5 Miata. The Miata was my second choice between my MY01 Spa, and what moved me to the S was that the its handling was much less precise in the twisties. I'd like to hear why you feel its handling is better than the S's.

My first question to you would be what year Miata did you test drive? The My06 is a totally different beast from previous years. The car is slightly larger, has 170 hp, 17 inch rims, xenon lights, and feels great.

I believe that the main difference between the Miata and the S2000 is that in tight turning the Miata's rear end doesn't feel like it's about to break loose as easily. Also, since the car is lighter, it has a very crisp feel to the steering. The shifter on the MY06 is as good as the S2000's now too.

The S2000 is still a nicer car to look at and has the hp advantage and that's why I went with it. But the Miata has more features than the S2000 now. Some of these features are as follows:

Keyless entry: When you touch the door the car opens up
Hard top
heated seats
3 cup holders
power passenger door lock
Bose stereo system with indash 6 disk CD changer

So I was tempted to go the way of the Miata. But another deterrent was the price. The dealerships are only getting a limited number of hardtops in so they were marking them up. I got them to drop the price down, but even after that, I was looking at paying $29,500 not including any dealer fee's etc. I just couldn't do it knowing that that car only had 170 hp and no current SC option.

BTW, the car needs new tires. What should I get?
