Default Near _____ Experience?

So yesterday I decided to change my oil and my clutch was feeling a little sticky so I wanted to do a quick clutch bleed as well. Long story short, my sister over poured the brake fluid while filling and I was underneath the car and it splashed all over the place and in my eye. Thank god I flushed it out and my sister is a nurse and had some saline tubes around (she was laughing her ass off while I yelled stop pouring). I had a near blind experience - anyone have any similar stories? Hope most of them are more funny than sad.

Often in the deep of things I suddenly find my black lab's nose right next to mine, looking at what I am doing. I am done if he starts licking my face and my hands are full of tools.

I was removing a spring from a strut on my gtx mazda. the spring was under compression and the top hat was removed. All that i needed to do was slowly release the tension on the spring compressor (snap on). well, i released the tension not seeing that the spring was hung up on a part of the strut. I just gently touched the spring and POW! the spring shot across the shop smashing on the far wall. lucky my ankles weren't in the way.

close one.

Not to be "that guy" but I'm pretty sure at least one member here has died as a result of their S falling on them.

Sorry, but you asked.

I was building a bracket and had to drill some holes in it. While on the drill press, the bit got stuck and shattered. I know it was foolish of me not to wear goggles when doing so. Luckily, a shard cut me under my right eye. Any higher and I probably would've lost sight in that eye.

We sometimes get comfortable with handling dangerous things so try to be safe guys. Safety will always be my #1 priority. It has been since that incident years ago.

When I was a kid I had a paper "route" selling news on a military base that reworked aircraft. There were tons of "safety" posters with vivid pics of fingers minus the hand, lacerations, shredded eyeballs, compound fractures, severed arteries, splattered brain material, all kinds of stuff to make you realize you really CAN get hurt working on stuff. Made a big impression on me and I still am super careful.

I was switching out the stock springs for coilovers on my MK1, and didn't know that I needed a spring compressor to remove the stock coils. Funnily enough, none of them were preloaded and I had no issues... except the drivers side rear coil. I loosened up the top hat, and spent like 30 minutes pulling the bolt out of the control arm on the bottom.

As I was freeing that bolt... BAM!! The whole spring/strut assembly launched itself into my garage floor, right next to my forearm. I still think it would have obliterated my forearm if it caught me.

Another time, I was draining the coolant out of my Corrado, and the t-stat assembly slipped out of my hands and I got a mouthful of coolant.
