Thumbs up Need advice on changing Final Drive Gears

Okay Im not looking for anyone to make a decision for me. I just had some extra cash and I have seen from time to time that changing the final drive gears are the most bang for the buck.

A quick run down:
I don't drag, an occasional race on the street from time to time.
This is not my Daily driver
Car sets on 18's, lowered 1" with Eibach Pro's, Injen CAI(not installed yet), Tanabe exhaust.

Questions:
1. would this modification be worth it..
2. would I need to get a new housing?
3. what sort of RMP's are ran 80MPH, how drastic is the difference.
4. where would the "power gain" range from? 2nd-3rd 4th -6th?

Not really sure, but the 4.57 is what I have been reading about.

I need to still be able to drive the car on long trips for when we go on vacation, but that's only twice a year, and I live in the middle of no where......so if we go out on like the weekend we have to drive at least an hour to the nearest restaurant, not fast food ie, OUTBACK, RED LOBSTER, or even the nearest mall.

thats what I have to worry about

I have the 4.57. the only down side is gear whine, due to the fact that the gear material is a lot harder material than the other gears. the gear whine can vary depending on install and contact pattern.

for me, it whines between 35-75mph. the gear whine is minimal, and the only time it's too loud is between 51-54mph. at some speeds it's almost silent. my girlfriend never complains about it.

as for value. best mod i've done, hands down. this mod is awesome. i can pull on a stock S2000 all day long. at 80mph, my rpms are about 4600 i think. i dont remember specifically, but i know that in 6th gear, it's 500rpm over what a stock S2k would be.

my gas mileage actually went up. i'm now averaging about 23mpg. on this long trip I just had, i averaged 28-29mpg.

the 4.77's are a kia gear so strength is not gauranteed. also it put the rpm too high for my taste. the 4.44 i dont know much about, except i think it's a miata gear.

you dont need a new diff housing.

If the 4.57 gears are used is it more important to use the reinforced diff(versus the stock gears)?

Also does anyone with this mod also have the lighter flywheel mod? And do they recommend it? As I understand it both mods bring you to the redline more quickly... Just wondering about the combination.

thanks,
Aaron

I got the reinforced diff because I eventually plan on going FI and I launch the car at the drag strip.

If you are even CONSIDERING the comptech reinforced diff, then get it right away with the gears, since swapping out the diff later will require a re-install of the gears again anyways.

Looks like he said only if, BUT Honda will fight to the death if your differential fails and you've got aftermarket gears in there. Consider it you own little insurance policy.
