Need advice on selling a used car (S2k)
I haven't sold a used car in many years. I'm looking to my S2000 and I guess I don't know what I'm doing. I have an idea of value but don't know the best way or where to list it.
I don't know how to accept payment or what type of payment is safe.
This car has been pampered and I don't like the idea of strangers test driving it.
I listed the car on Facebook marketplace, I think that was a mistake. I got inundated with all kinds of messages, everything from low ball offers, trade offers. People are very interested - sight unseen. I can't see a serious buyer wanting to make an offer without inspecting the car first. Lots of people want me to hold the car....It's been a real hassle.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

In addition to autotrader, take a good look at Bring a Trailer. I follow a number of cars on it and for cars like you have described yours, it will bring top dollar. You won't have to mess around with people wanting to stop by and a zillion phone calls.
These cars in good condition, are becoming rare. Potential buyers will see what they want in yours and bid to get it. You can have a reserve price or not.
Do not under any circumstances take it to a dealer. You will get screwed. No trade ins on this bad boy.
Good luck. Let us know how it turns out please.
BTW, if you want to put the particulars of your car here, you will get several opinions of an approximate value. A couple of pics would help as well.

I've listed a few cars on Facebook and the positives about that platform is that it has a broad reach. However you're on your own when it comes to listing. Typically I don't include my personal number (to avoid spam), have a first come first serve policy (no holds), and respond only to those who send their contact information. Cash is king. I've also accepted cashier's checks in the past or bank transfers physically at the bank. Personal checks and crypto are no go with me.
If an interested party has proof of funds and you drive with them, a test drive should be fine. Any serious buyer would probably want to drive it before spending a good amount of money.
Bring a Trailer is a good platform for low milage, pristine examples which bring the most money. If there are flaws (not 10/10 VIN's, modifications, etc.), then buyers get critical.
Cars & Bids is a newer platform that completes with BAT. Its popularity is from a Youtube/car reviewer. Seems like cars tend to get less compared to BAT.
Recently saw the same AP1 listed on both platforms with almost $4,000 difference. Example 1, example 2
In the end, it depends on how much work you want to put in to sell. You can go solo (Craigslist, Facebook, Car.com, autotrader) or use broker services (BaT, C&B) where you can also hire "certified sellers" to help create the listing and take photos.
Selling to enthusiasts would probably be a good middle ground, so getting advice on value or listing in the Marketplace would be a good move.
I think your ad on FB was fine. I assume the yellow 06 is yours. The price is appropriate. With FB there is going to be all kinds of messages. You'll quickly learn who has an actual interest in the car vs the bullshitters. Note: someone sending you funds for a car they haven't personally inspected isn't all that uncommon. In fact thousands of cars are sold daily via carmax, carvana, branded dealer, etc without the purchaser seeing the car in person first. You have a somewhat harder to find, low mileage, one owner car that hasn't been modified to death, there are going to be people that are going to bite that bullet because they fear its going to slip through their fingertips if they wait. You have the luxury of conversing with people to see if they are what you consider to be a good fit for your car. Good luck with the sale, dont stress it.
I’ve had 8 S2000s over the years. I sold my first one here on S2Ki around 2013. The other seven? All sold through Facebook Marketplace, no issues at all. It's just way easier to communicate on there compared to forums. Let’s be real, S2Ki isn’t what it used to be back in the golden days of the early 2010s. It’s slowed down a lot and mostly serves as an archive now for the new guys who wants to know more about the platform. You get a lot more traffic listing it on social media platform like FB than on forums, that's just the reality of things now.
