Default Need Advice - Stock Airbox Restrictive?

Hey Everyone,

New to the S2000... Just had a few quick questions regarding the stock airbox and filter.

How restrictive is it? I would prefer to leave it in but maybe make a few alterations.

What set up are you guys running, still using stock airbox? I noticed there's a plastic wall insde the airbox. It looks like it would restrict airflow. I was thinking of cutting it out and replacing the stock filter to a more free flowing filter.

Any recommedations on an improved air intake system or is the stock airbox fine? If the stock airbox is fine, do any other alterations need to be made to further improve performance/air flow? Any comments, suggestions or opinions will be highly appreciated.

Just want to make sure the motor is getting enough cool air while trying to improve performance, a bit. All your feedback will be greatly appreciated...

Take Care,
Ed

this intake is one of the best oem intakes ever produced...... the plastic wall is there to prevent things from entering the area of the filter... (there have been times when people have sucked up little birds into the intake box) it also prevents water from reaching the filter......

you can swap out the filter to a more free flowing intake if you wish..... but i would not cut the plastic wall.... also don't run without the box lid on ... people have done it for the sound but you do lose power...

Any more information as to why...?

Is it actually worth it, does it make a performance difference, is it lighter???

What makes it so worth it to change, except for the sound?

Fill me in a little bit more on details and power gains...

Thanks,
Ed

Your not going to gain that much hp with a CAI. IMO its not worth the money.
As blue stated the stock air box is a very good one. I put in a K&N filter
you get better air flow for throttle response but thats about it. Also with
the K&N filter its made of cloth so you never have to replace it. There is
a cleaning kit that is available so you can clean and re-oil it every 20,000
miles.

that plastic wall in the airbox, what would happen if someone DID cut it out? seems as if that wall serves as a divider to create an additional chamber (kind of like an intake resonator) to quiet down the intake noise... or maybe im just retarded.

Beats me what all the plastic walls inside the intake do, but seeing as I've yet to see an aftermarket intake that significantly outperforms it, I'm not about to fiddle with them. Sure they look like they might be restrictive, but I'm certain Honda engineers didn't just arbitrarily put them in there.
