My 3 week old yellow stook got scraped on the rear bumper at the IKEA parking a few weeks ago. Have now received it back after THIRD atempt to get the color match correct, and it is still way off!

The paint shop now refuses to see my car again, stating they have done their absolute best and can't do any better. Insurance company is getting cold feet as well.

Seems only possibility to get it right is to get a rear bumper factory sprayed in Japan. Speaking to spare parts of Honda Sweden, they say no such thing is avaialble. All spare rear bumper are shipped unsprayed.

Can someone say if there is a possibility to get one anyway? Any appropraite contact? Woodwork, any advice on this?

I appreciate your help to get my car back to new-looking!

Jonas

I ordered a new driver's side mirror from Honda because of a truck kicking a rock up and scratching my original. It comes from the factory painted. Honda must have amazing color consistancy and quality control because it is EXACTLY the same color as the car and the old mirror.

Maybe the rear bumper cover will come painted as well if you order it? You can find out easy enough at the parts counter because you will have to specify a color if it does. I am thinking the plastic parts might come pre painted.

Thanks Bieg,

But the Part Department of Honda Sweden (and the dealer too) said it is not painted. Perhaps it is only for Sweden, that is what I am trying to find out, if there is indeed the possibitiy to get one pre-painted. Can any of my US friends check if it is the same in the US? And if so, is there a possibility anyway to get one factory painted?

I appreciate your efforts,

Jonas

Jonas - Sorry to hear of your trouble. I had to have my front bumper cover repainted due to some paint defects, and the color match is very good (but not perfect). It is often challenging to get an exact match on the plastic parts. My understanding is that the mirrors and small plastic parts like the tow hook and licence plate plugs come pre-painted but the bumper covers do not. Perhaps the solution is to use a different body shop.

Thanks.

I will probably have to pay for the next paint shop myself, and risk getting the same poor color match. Instead of risking it, I would rather place that money towards an original OEM painted one, to get it perfect. I am so sad that my new car doesn't look new at the moment

If you get the Helms body manual, you will find out that it is not just a paint job, but actually a layering job that puts several layers on that are resistant to stones.

This proceedure MUST be followed to emulate the original paint job.

The Helms' manuals are worth the money. Buy all for the car especially if you wish to keep it!

Perhaps this could be a solution:

Buy honda's paint and clear coat? But flex agents must be added to allow some flex in the bumper so the paint doesn't crack.

On my Melissa (yellow) the bumpers are ever so slightly different in color. I think it's the special paint technique mentioned earlier. I'm pretty sure bumper caps are unpainted from the factory and must be done by the shop.

It would be good if our friend Woodwork could make some suggestions. I am really not a happy easter bunny right now

Is it possible to buy Honda paint as you say ??

And yeah, Both the Insurance guy, the dealer, Honda Sweden, and the Paint shop say that yellow, and in particular pearl effect is a b***h to get right. It gets right only by luck. Even keeping the spray gun at different distances from the surface will change the shade of yellow! That is why I really want to get a factory painted bumper, painted by a reliable and consistent robot. Cost (within limits) is not an issue.

Yellow owners, drive carefully!
