Default Need Help on '00 Plastic-To-Glass Conversion

Thanks in advance for any help. Before anyone asks I already did searches and came up empty.

Recently I remember reading a thread where Honda (after many requests) was doing a plastic-to-glass window replacement for somewhere around $150-300 depending on the dealer. I'm trying desperately to find the thread so I can PM a couple of the members that claimed to have recently had this done. My dealer said they have no knowledge of a "Honda sponsored conversion" and would like the name(s) of any dealers that have done this?

Please Help!

I would assume you mean 150-300 in labor since it is not possible to buy the parts for the conversion for that price. I think when OneQuickS2K did his conversion he said the shop near him would do the install for 300. I remember seeing that a long time ago, just look for the thread where he did his conversion.

Clovis just did the conversion and posted instructions. Most other people had slashed tops and paid extra on top of their insurance for the upgrade. I never saw anyone post that they got the upgrade for $150-$300.

And I don't think there's anything official from AHM. Some dealers might do it - just like some dealers do aftermarket parts.

What's the saying, "I guess I must have smoked my breakfast that day". It must have been one of those 2-am on the Internet nights.

I could have sworn I read recently that 2-3 members wrote about a "Honda sponsored program" where they paid all but 150-$300 and replaced the plastic with glass including the new frame for the top. Hmmmmm?

You mean like this thread?

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...?threadid=98515

It is not a "Honda sponsored program". What it is is that some owners got agreements from their dealers to replace their tops under warranty, and these owners wanted to install an '02 top (with glass window) in place of the '00-'01 top (with plastic window), and the Honda dealers agreed to do it if they pay the difference in price between the two. So, first you must get your dealer to agree to replace your top under warranty, then you can negotiate with them on which top to use and how much difference there is in price. Good luck.

You have to buy the complete new top since the new top with a glass window does not zip out. You must have read about a miata top.

I hope to complete my conversion next month. Just waiting to get the car back from the body shop. I purchased an 02 top and frame from another member so all I need to do is bolt it back on when I get the car back.

I'll post pictures when complete.

The $300 is the labor for a dealer that OneQuickS2k and I know. I had my top changed by this dealer for $300 in labor--I supplied the top (which I got off ebay for $400). We are in California though--it's a long drive!
