I have a MY2001 on order (I have not yet put money down, so I can get out of it), but I just came across a MY2000 for sale, same color, for 3K less then the new one.

It has 12000 miles, new intake a performance chip, new tires (same as orig).

They rated the rear window condition as a 7.5 out of 10...

What questions should I ask?
What should I examine and how?
How do the mods affect the warranty?

Or should I stick with new...

Any and all opinions will be appreciated!

What "chip" are you refering to? I haven't heard of any such chip being available. It would be worth three grand to have the peace of mind knowing the break-in was done properly. Are you getting the '01 @ MSRP?

What warranty?

If you are buying from a private owner, I do not think the OEM warrany transfers. Although some extended warrenties will.

If you are getting it from a dealer and they are giving you a Used Car warranty, I think the mods should not affect it since that is how it was sold. I doubt they would replace it with another aftermarket, but thay should replace it with stock part. You would have to make sure that is spelled out before you buy.

Getting it from a dealer, you will not be able to ask many meaningful questions. If you ask how it was driven they will tell you about the proverbial little old lady, or have no way of knowing.

Yes, I am (hopefully ) getting a MY2001@MSRP.

It is a private seller.

Not sure what "chip" he was refering to, I will find out more info when (if) I go to check it out.

He has the honda extended warranty that is transferable for $100 bucks... But I believe the original 3/36 warranty is transferable as well.

I was going to quiz him about the break-in, try to ask him about what he did, of course without giving him the answer I want to hear...

For 3 grand I'd get the new one. You don't know how the owner of the used one treated it and you'll get an extra 12 months or so of warranty on the new one.

I like the idea of owning a new one myself. But I was wondering if the $3k in savings is enough incentive to go used.

At what price would it take you guys to buy a used S2k such as I described?

I realize this isn't the same as asking what it is worth... the market itself seems to say the car is worth the $30K, if not more...
