Default Need help with reliability of supercharged S2K's!!

I am new to the forum.. BTW its very good! I am interested in purchasing a 2001 spa yellow s2k with about 4K. It is in a different state so I havent had a chance to see it in person or drive it.. Its full Veilside, supercharged, and decked out. It has over $20k in receipts and I can get it for under $40K. Bottomline....what should I look for or know about these kind of upgrades and how can I ensure that there are no defects that will bite me in the ass??? Plus i am very concerned at the posts regarding thrown rods.. whats up with that? Are there that many bad drivers out there or is there a problem?? THANX in advance on the replies. Cant post pics but will send some if it would help.

any performance mods will cause damage to the engine...there are never any garauntee's..you might to check if the car is still under warantee after the supercharge installation. Little problems are sure to occur with those mods if you drive normally but bigger problems are to occur if you abuse. Plus you don't know who did the install..may lead to big headaches in the future..if you are going to spend close to 40k on an S2k why don't you just purchase a new S and install the supercharger..or better buy a used S and then install supercharger...alot of people on this forum have had problems with their S/C...Do a search

All good points... The reason this car catches my attention is because of the amount of money invested VS. my investment. The exterior kit and SC alone are more than 10K.... not counting the interior parts, wheels/tires..etc. The Honda dealership wher e the car is located tells me that the Honda warranty still applies... HOWEVER if I were Honda... any major defect would ALWAYS be caused by the mods.... any thoughts? I am trying to get them to certify the Honda parts.. the extra 12k basic and 100k powertrain are surely a plus.

There are some strong opinions about the car and the dealership on this thread.

VS Yellow S2K

Is this the same car on Ebay? Yellow on Ebay

That particular Honda dealership may cover warrenty items, but if you take your SC S2000 to another dealer, they may just laugh you off the lot. Member Columbino bought a used S2K with an SC. He negotiated a warrenty deal, but I don't know if he has had to use it yet. You may try sending him an e-mail. He hasn't been on the board in a while, so I doubt you would get a response with a PM.

Food for thought. You can get a used 2001 for about 27-28k. A supercharger for about 5k. Unless you are a big fan of the VS kit, I don't see this car as such a great deal. You would be paying a huge premium for a used car.

im with nin009....just go with a used s2k and do what you want...yea it has a lot done to it and its selling for less than 40k but who knows what that cars been through after all those mods. you can find a used 2000-2001 s for 25k or so, throw 10-15 grand in it (if you want) and you got a nicer car with the satisfaction and knowledge of your decisions.

YES... that is the car, uhmm doesnt seem as if the general public thinks that this car is very nice looking. I dont like the wing, but the rest of it looks good to me... personal pref I guess. Are the last 2 posts a good representation of the attitude of most?? 31K for a used 2001 with low miles maybe 30K if someone is hardup... wheels/tires... supercharger... ground effects.. 39K not a good deal... really? I might need to reconsider then. Great info, keep it coming.. thanks for the link Nin009.
