need help with s2k purchase

Default need help with s2k purchase

just wondering if i could get some feed back on this car. its selling for 8k, but i wonder, is 100k too high for a s2k?

my first choice would be a 02-03 for the glass window, but the price for those are around 13-14k.

and my thoughts are: if i buy a s2k, i will deff wanna change things, so why not save mony on the car, since im going to be swapping parts out anyways?

but is 100k alot for a s2k? do they start having probs at that mileage?

any info would be great.

Wow 9k for a 00' with over 100k. I personally would wait for a lower/newer mileage car. Is it even a clean title? If you do plan to buy it make sure he has records for his mobile 1 "every 3k miles" and id offer round 7000 maybe even less, check KKB on pricing in your area.

I wouldn't pass judgement on a car just because its at 100K miles.
You have to look at the car to see the condition its in.
In my search for a S2000, I've seen some 50K miles car that looks like crap and 100K cars thats in pristine condition.
Go look at the car and judge for yourself.
You can pretty much guess how the engine was treated by how the overall conditionof the car.
Beside, be able to get a decent S2000 for under $10K was unheard of just a few yrs ago.
You can find them readily now.

$8k sounds reasonable for that car, $9k is a bit too much but I'm sure he can negotiate. Almost 100k miles on my engine and it hasn't given me a single problem.
But for a few thousand dollars more you'll have a much larger choice of clean lower mileage s2k's.

IMHO, wait for what you really want. Even as reliable as the S is, 100k is alot if you weren't the one that accumulated it. Too much history to check up on. A few more grand can get you possibly half the mileage with the same year. I say just wait it out. As far as things are going, the value of the S keeps going down.

Just my $.02

I've been after an S for about a year now. Everytime i find a S that is cheaply priced. It gets picked apart because its not 100% mint condition.

Many of us are perfectly fine with working on a damaged car to make it better.

So, my advice, is get it. Its a honda motor, 100k is nothing.

Get a pre purchase inspection from someone who knows what to look for. Run the VIN to make sure it's not a salvage car. Test drive it to make sure it runs properly.

The only thing I'd be wondering is why the oil was changed every 3,000 with synthetic when the interval suggested is 7500 even with non-synthetic.

In any case, plenty of Hondas and other cars run perfectly fine over 100,000 miles. For $8,000, I would say it's a good deal.

Plenty of high mileage (nearly 200,000 mile) early 90s Miatas still fetch $4000 if they are not beat up.

For that price even if the engine goes after a while can buy a sweet low mileage engine for like $2000 these days... Buy it if it checks out I say. I have 108K on my S and have not had a single mechanical issue yet..

i'm just ball-parking this figure from what i've read (and personally know from my local club), but i'd say 90% of the people on this forum change ever 3-5k miles, with full synthetic.
