Probably should see if even that long bulb will fit? Then if the housing can withstand the heat?

You will have some issues with replacing the globe as I haven't seen any where that prduces a HID globe with a compatible base to replace the standard halogen 55W globe because the standard globe is much shorter in the body then a HID globe and you have to retain the focal point. I have also read about very bad results from these globe swaps because of the different size of the light source compared t a halogen globe.

More importantly firstly you will loose your "flash" capability as the HID won't ignite in time to give a significant flash, secondly I think if you check you will find most US States don't allow the modification of the standard lights. Of course with the second point it would have to be a picky officer to get upset and we know there aren't any of those out there...

A better proposition would be to fit a set of auxillary HID driving lights, there are plenty in the US not like Oz where there are a grand total of "none", just use HID in your favouritr search engine.

LOL.

Do a search. In a previous discussion one of the members has replaced his highs with Phillips HIDs.

Philips make a lot of bulbs and ballast... the HID bulb is really long, a lot longer than your standard H1... so I don't even know if you could fit it without cutting.

Fitment is no problem, but would it burn the stock casing , i can make it fit by doing some custom resizing, like i did for my strobe lights ( sho me) but will it burn or will anything bad happen...
