Default need your help to get the S2k

Need Help with my parents. My rents are going to come to the States to help me pick out a new car, and the only problem is my mom hates convertables. She is so adament about how unsafe they are. Does anyone know the safety ratings of the S? Especially in rollover situations? It would help me out as far as convincing her. My dad would be cool about it i'm sure. ALso, does the available hardtop help in the event of a rollover? Thanks

wow... well.. honestly hopefully a rollover will never happen... BUT... i have thought about this same safety issue, i dont want the s2k to kill me... so perhaps a hardtop would help, i would figure that would make it much like any other coupe... but there are gonna be times where you WILL be driving with the top down, like me, all the time ... but you could also look into a roll cage.. i was planning on getting one later... when my car doesnt look as stock... but i figure that would help from smashing your head into your seat...

My case was different.
My dad hates conv. and my mom is ok with it.
But after i let me dad drive it a few times, i think the car convinced him it was good.
HHEEEHH
I told my dad if he had a problem with safety i'll get the hardtop.

i'm hoping that will work with my rents. The hardtop i would imagine would help my argument, I just hope they believe me when i say i wont take it off
I dont think my dad will have a problem, its mostly my mom who worries a lot. I plan on moving to Houston Texas after I graduate so it would be great to have a convertable. I love the way the hardtop looks though. Very nice.

From what I've heard, the hardtop is actually more dangerous in a rollover situation, as it is only held down with clasps and will immediately pop off and become an airborne hazard. If your head extends above the stock roll hoops, then good luck convincing your parents that it's safe. If not, you could show them some pictures of S's that have been in rollovers. The cockpit holds up nicely. Don't forget, there's roll structure built into the windshield frame as well.

what do u mean there is roll structure built into the windshield and frame? The windshield wont collapse in the event of a rollover? And also some cars have roll bars behind the head that extend upward in the event of a rollover to better protect the passangers. Does the S have this? Where can i find pics of rolled S's?

The S2000 has intergrated rollbars, one is the windshield, and there are two behind the seats. I recall reading of a member here, who rolled his S with his girlfriend, titled "my S is gone, and i'm lucky to be alive". He rolled it with the soft top, and was very thankfull for the S2000's amazing rollover protection, which he says saved his life.

If you really feel you need the extra protection, there are several aftermarket rollbars you can look into. Check out the sponsors here on s2ki.com for more info.

I think yellow streak has a roll bar, ask him because it is not only safe but it looks awesome too.
