Need your help guys....buying s2000
Hey..... this is my first time buying a car from a dealer. I'm really interested in a 2003 blue s2000 with 43,000 miles. The car has had 4 previous owners and its looks very clean and completely stock. I checked the VIN. The listed price is $14,990. I want them to come down to atleast 12,500 or 13000 after taxes and fees. My plan is to pay half down and the rest monthly.
What I want to know is when I call what should I say and ask? Also I am 500 miles away from the dealer, but I'm willing to go all the way down there. I dont want to make any mistakes or errors that would hurt me in the long run. Thanks.

Have you done your research?
$17040 KBB sug. retail value
$14990 is what they're asking
$14490 KBB PP value: Excellent
$13640 KBB PP value: Good
$12590 KBB PP value: Fair
$12000 What you're looking to pay ($13k OTD minus tax/lic/fees)
You're asking them to take 20% off their asking price. That car is worth much more than $12k.

^^^ Let the OP try and get the deal at $12.5k. He's got half of THAT to put down and finance the rest.
This is one of the smarter "Is this a good price?" threads I've read.
OP, stick to your offer if that is what you want to pay for the car. Worse case? They say no. Leave your name and number with the dealer, they'll call back if they are struggling to move it.
Oh yeah, when you make the deal, get the deal faxed or emailed in writing. I've heard a few stories on s2ki where the deal changes after the buyer drives 500 miles. And don't give them your credit card over the phone if they ask for it.
Good Luck

Take your time, find one little close from you.
It isn't easy to deal with outside city dealer. Especially if it is going to take you atleast 4~5 hours driving?....It is USED sports car plus has many previous owner, you must look at it first and test drive before you make a deal.
Don't too much think about cutting a price, look at condition of car first.

Have someone that knows body work check it out. I too looked at a 'clean' '03 S2000 before I bought mine and also had an S2ki member check it out. He noticed immediately that it had a lot of body work done on it and must've been in a big accident. I wouldn't have noticed these things myself.

One nice thing about a dealership (note, I said "one" thing) is that they may do other things if they won't come down on the price. I was able to get 4 new OEM tires and a brand new Honda windshield installed. Yes, and patience is a virtue for sure when buying a used car.
