Default New 2001 with 359 Miles

Greetings! Would you buy a brand new 2001 S2K from a new car dealer that had 359 test drive miles on it? With the special care that is required to break a vtec in, and many salespeople probably not knowing this, I'm sure some idiot has gotten in it to test drive and have probably VTEC'd it.

How much damage could have been done?

What do you all think?

Also, over the phone he said gave me a price of $32,800. This is in the metro DC area so is pretty good IMO.

Thanks,

moonpie

The above price is not an out the door price, but really breaks down as such:

Price: 32,800
Tax: 1,063
Tags: 39
Dest. 440
Proc 289

Total: 34,630

With 359 test drive miles on it I wonder how long it has been sitting on the lot for? Wonder how much more I could knock it down. This information was via a phone call with a Senior Manager (whatever that means)

Ask them to sell it to you as a "Honda Certified Used Car". You get a 6 year 100,00 mile warranty. Or ask them to throw in the extended warranty on the "new" car.

Seriously I would not even think of getting the 2001 right now. The 2002 is gonna be a signifcantly upgraded car. Just wait for it and I am sure you can find a good deal. I got mine for under MSRP before taxes and stuff but it had 0 miles on it. One time the dealer wanted to take me out in a test model and show me V-TEC and I was like umm...wont that hurt the car b4 break in. He said nah they run the engine in the test shop way b4 we get it inside the car (pffft dont listen to them). Those 359 miles are 359 miles of mis-shifts, reverse problems, VTecing without proper warm up or proper break in. DONT BUY IT. Just My Opppinion .

I'd wait for the 2002, and we can find MSRP for you... just ask, and I'm sure people will step up with recommendations!

Thanks for the input - I appreciate it. I just spoke with the Senior Manager dude again and told him of my concerns with the mileage and he told me he was unaware of any break in period for the car....now that scares me. Is this info listed in the owner's manual or somewhere else?

Waiting for a 2002 really seems like the sensible thing to do now that I think about it - if I can get one for MSRP that is.

Moonpie-

Yes, it's in the owner's manual - 600 miles under 5500 rpm. Vary speed and rpm.

Personally, I'd wait for a 2002 or bargain bigtime and try to get at least $1000 off the price of the MY2001 or several accessories thrown in.

Are you kidding? Why buy a 2001 at MSRP when you can get a 2002 with more equipment at MSRP. Please E-mail your VA dealers and find out for yourself. I found at least 3 dealers all asking MSRP or MSRP plus $300 in dealer fees.

I agree with you valueguy. I don't know wtf I was thinking...

I had originally planned on getting a used 2001 for around $30k.
Then I thought to myself, hmm...I can get a brand new one for MSRP, plus a lower interest rate for a new car loan.

This works out like this:

$30,000 @ 7.99% = $525.85 (Used 2001 for 72 months)
$33,600 @ 6.75% = $568.82 (New 2002 for 72 months)

I figure the $33,600 is MSRP plus dest. charge, dealer fees, and tags.

So, for ~ $43 a month more, I can get a brand spanking new 2002.

Now I need to find a dealer in the DC area that will sell me one for MSRP.
