New 2006 Civic Si more advanced than S2k?

The S2000 is a traditional, classic 2 seat sportscar. It will never be "outdated" - Just like an MG-TC will never be outdated, just like an Austin Healy Sprite will never be outdated...

come on guys.. the new CIVIC?? its a newly designed car but i don't think the performance will be anything special. its not all that advanced, its just a new civic.

Well the "SI" I would gather to be a pretty nice car for the price. I might test drive one just to check it out.
viewing the new civic for what it is however i must say the new concept definetely looks nice and honda is promising the body lines will be very similar on the production version. the civic needs to stay ahead of all the other compacts and i think honda knows this. i think they will deliver a top notch car.
anybody checked out the new euro-market civic? i'm trying to decide if i like the styling.. i just can't get over the hatch.
starting in 2002 with the RSX S and the 2.0l Si, these cars were more 'advanced' with their i-VTEC. however, ours are tuned much more aggressively and we have rwd, so fu*k em.

The S2000 is Honda taking their older technology and maximizing its potential. It doesn't really contain anything 'new' at the time it was made in terms of engine technology. The car itself is pretty well tuned and pretty much maximized performance wise. Thats why adding bolt-ons like headers, intake, exhaust, etc on the current S2000 yield so little in performance gains.
I think the new Civic SI will be pretty close engine wise to the RSX Type S, so comparing the S2000 to the RSX-S is probably the closest you can get until the Civic SI is actually out.
Now, the RSX-S and its K20A2 engine is a fairly under developed engine performance wise. Honda hasn't tried to squeeze as much power out of the car as possible like they did with the S2000. With a few bolt ons and an ECU reflash, the RSX-S can push out nearly the same horsepower as a stock S2000 ... and thats using the less performance oriented Type S cams (versus the JDM Integra Type R K20A1 engine). I've seen RSX-S's run 14.0 in the 1/4 mile with stock rubber (the RSX uses crappy all season Michelin MXM4s), CAI, and a Hondata reflash. Thats pretty damn impressive if you ask me...
I believe if we see another S2000 soon or an all out production 4cyl performance vehicle from Honda/Acura it will be using the K series or something very similar to the current K series. IIRC, Hondata has dynoed race tuned K24 engines that put out 270hp/200ft-lbs (Link) ... I'm sure as a production engine Honda could probably release an NA K series putting out 250hp/180 ft-lbs with no problem.

With similar weight(or lighter) as the S2K and the addition of a stock LSD, the stock SI will be competitive with the S2000. After tuning and mods, I trully believe it'll be easier to hustle the new SI under 14seconds in the 1/4 than an S2000. Get ready and be prepared to face the facts... It takes an exceptional run to get the S in that 13.8 territory.
Just remember, the S is pre-tuned. SI's will have to tune, S folks just have to drive...

Don't forget, the new RSX-S engine has 210 hp and the JDM integra type-r engine puts out 220 and redlines at 9K. It's not inconceivable that Honda could squeeze out another 20 on top of the ITR to make it 240. The K series engine is a really good engine from a technology standpoint (iVtec). I'd imagine if Honda wanted to do a major update to the s2000 (which it probably won't) they would go with a tuned K series engine with the AP platform.
So yes, technology-wise, it is probably better. But still doesn't compare with the S. Some might say the s2000 is more technologically advanced than the NSX. Does that make it a better car? No(t necessarily).
I wouldn't wory. If I still had my RSX-S I would worry. 2002 RSX-S = 200hp no lsd. 2006 Civic = 200hp + lsd. 2005 RSX-S = 210hp no lsd.

*sigh* why does everyone think that i-Vtec is a performance technology.....it's not. It's primarily for fuel enconomy with some greater variability for mid-range torque. It alone won't in increase the Top end power more than standard VTEC. Look at every performance related car honda has released.....NO iVTEC, except the Kseries. No iVtec on the RL, no iVtec on the TL, none on the s2k. The only recent iVTEC was the accord hybrid.
Can it make tuning a little easier, probably, but adjustable cam gears are probably better. Afterall there is a reason that Toda recommends replacing VTC(iVTEC) with adjustable cam gears for serious tuning.
