New Car Mileage
I am very close to buying a new 2008 or 2009 S2000. I have found plenty of 2009s and 1 or 2 2008s in the color that I want. At this point, I am choosing between a new 2009 black on black and a new 2008 black on black for $4000 less. The only thing making this decision difficult is the fact that the 2008 has over 200 miles on it (from test drives, transport, etc.) while the 2009 is PRISTINE (right off the truck). Is it unusual for new cars to be sold with such high mileage? Sould I be especially wary considering the fact that the s2000 is a manual sports car?
The mere fact that you're asking this question means the "new, pristine" 2009 is worth more to you than the 2008 with a few hundred miles. How much more is up to you. I can tell you this...in 6 months or 6 years, 200 miles won't matter one way or the other. If you get a feeling of satisfaction from knowig that you, and only you, got to break-in the new engine, by all means buy the newer one.
It wouldn't be CPO since it is a new car with demo miles on it... Honestly you should be able to work quite a deal on both of those cars... how much are they asking? I'd go for the '08 if its significantly cheaper even after working the price down on the '09...
Try to make a deal with the dealer. You will buy the '08 with the condition that within 90 days you have the option to return it and trade for a brand new one. Who knows? They might go for it and in the meantime your driving an S and making an evaluation on the '08.

I would probably go for the 08 being $4k less and still get the same warranty as the 09s. Now if money wasn't an issue go for the 09 if you feel more comfortable with it. Definitely, deal wise, 08 for sure.
Think of the classy mods you could do to the car for $4,000.... Nice rims, upgrade the sound system, etc. I wouldn't be worried about 200 miles. Newer engines aren't effected by hard break ins like they were 20 years ago. The tolerances are so good now that having to keep RPMS low for the first 3,000 miles or so is more of a "that's what I've heard" than actually scientific truth.
I had the same decision. I got the demo car.
I bought my new MY06 with 700 miles for $3000 less than a MY07 off the truck. No regrets, and I'm past 25k miles. My front end has rock chips from gravel trucks on the freeway, and it would look just the same had I paid the extra $3000. I'll take the cash.
Of course, I was looking for a barely used (less than 15k miles) car when I decided to go new, so maybe I'm biased...
