Default new car... s2k?

Hello All,

I would like to get your opinion on the s2k. As of today, I own a prelude but I think I want a change. Personally, I love the s2k's but I'm wondering if there really worth all that money.

So please list, write, reply your opinion defending the s2k or not. And if you had another car to buy (other than the s2k) what would it be? (let's keep it sane here, no lambo's or bentley's) in the price range of 30-50k.

Used porsche?
Nissan 350z?
G35?

Thanks guys,

RX8 = Poor gas mileage, virtually no torque under 4k rpm, strange styling with wierd shiny little devices everywhere.

it depend on your preferences... You like luxury or not?? cus S2k is NO LUXURY...

Like most s2k owner would say is to TEST DRIVE it and let that be your decision.

I have friend who decision a G35 or an S2K.. Since he doesn't anything about S2K . I told him forget it, get the G35 because the S2K it been out for like 8 yrs now or so and it becoming obsolete among car like the Z gaining power throughout the year (how GAY).

Because usually a person who knows nothing about S2K and then gets an S2k will tend to regret getting it. (or not)

There a new Saturn Sky Red Line - it 4 banger turbo with 260hp/260tq 50/50 weight, 0-60mph in 5.5 sec (factory claims) 1/4 mi - 13.9 (factory claims). It looks pretty good to me.... BUT IT A SATURN!!!!!! hahhahaha

Thanks guys,
It is definitely worth the money if you are talking the difference in value between your prelude and just about any MY S2000.

You are listing 30-50K range...Jesus! The S2000 "barely" hits that target...and I assume you are talking "new", as you can pick up really good S2k's in the 15-25K range ALL day long...

S2000
STi
EVO
C6
S4
335i

The list goes on and on...your question is too vague

That's it for me...

I have no need to "defend" the S2000; if you don't think it's worth all that money, just buy something else. It doesn't matter to me either way.

I'd say the only thing that holds anybody back from buying an s2000 is the size and seating. i have never heard of anybody say that they don't like the body style of it or the raw power that it contains. if you can sacrafice all the bells and whistles of a luxury 4 seater for the strict performance vehicle then this is the car for you. if you want something comparable with more room and luxury get a bmw or audi , but with those two comes reliability issues unlike the s.

...and yes it is well worth the money!

My last car was a 2003 Lancer Evolution:
Car was fast and practical, but was costing me too much money in gas (22 mpg) and the maintenance was horrible~ plus it eats up tires and the cheapest clutch was $1400.

Car before that was a 2005 Nissan 350z:
The car was wonderful in freeway driving AND city driving. Torquey, plus a lot of power throughout the powerband. The only problem was that when I filled up, it was taking $65 to fill up, but it had a good range. Wait, the other problem was that only the 2005's got 17" wheels and mine had no cruise control/lsd/HID. But that's what you get with a base model. Now the new ones are fantastic, even the base ones!

My current car is a 2005 Honda S2000:
What can I say? I love it. But then again, I've only had it for a week haha. The steering is nimble (most solid feeling out of the three), sits low (lowest of 3), gas mileage is good (10.9 gallons @ 265 miles to the tank w/ minimal highway), plus it's a convertible. The only thing I worry about is getting my seats stolen... time for a HARDTOP!!!

Good luck on your choice, I'm sure you'll like whichever car you pick.

Hey Thanks for the messages guys. I appreciate those that replied in a helpful manner!

In reply to the messages about defending the s2000. I think some members confused my question- I want to buy a s2k because ever since they came out; I've been a die heart fan! I can sacrifice luxury and size.

About a used s2000. I wouldn't mind it but I just dont like the fact of having a used car... What should I look out for when searching for a used s2k? Also, what year should I buy? Whats the difference b/w 01, 02, 03, ,04, etc sk2's...?

...I'll be going to test drive one.

Thanks guys,

I'll keep you posted.

My first car was a 1996 Integra LS that was very fun to drive as a first car, but it was lacking handling, and speed that I wanted. After a year of driving the Integra LS, I sold it for a 1998 Honda Prelude Type SH. The Prelude Type SH comes with ATTS (active torque transfer system) which is suppose to give the Prelude rear wheel drive characteristics in a front wheel drive. The Prelude was way more fun to drive than the Integra, and I drove it for about two years before moving onto a 2007 S2000. The Integra and Prelude Type SH can't even compare in how much fun it is to drive the S2000. Before I decided to buy the Prelude, extensively drove my friends 350z, STi, and I went to the dealership to drive the Evo IX MR. I thought about it and I said to myself, if I don't get a S2000 with a drop top, it's going to be like any other car because theres a roof, so I decided to go with the S2000 and I have no regrets...
