Default New car smell is gone...

Not sure if this is a new thing "going around" and I should have heard about it.

I got gas today, and someone -- I presume as a cruel prank -- had left the "trigger lock" on, holding the nozzle open; therefore, as the pump instructed "begin fueling" and I grabbed the nozzle, fuel spewed out long before I could get it into the filler. Imagine the shock when "letting go" had no effect.

I sprayed the side of the car and, worse, the top was down, so I got a bit of the interior as well. ARRRGHH! ...and I have pretty quick reflexes.

I got home and washed the outside and did something of an interior cleaning before it got dark, and the worst of the smell is gone. I'll have to address it more agressively later, wondering if the leather, etc., might be damaged.

Well, I thought the pump would have an "interlock" to prevent this, apparently I am mistaken. I gurantee I'll check in the future. Sure glad I don't smoke!

The car is just over two months old, and has now experienced it's first "imperfection" moment.

I hope this happens to no one else.

wow what a gay thing to do...

but shouldn't you have noticed that the trigger was already locked before you activated the pump?

Perhaps, but I think you might be missing the point.

Anyway, this was all +/- 1.5 seconds, the display read "begin fueling", I grabbed the nozzle and the thing started discharging almost simultanteously. I guess if i had been slower to grab the nozzle, it would have sprayed the pump, probably got all over me.

Over 33 years driving, filled up -- what, 1500 times or more -- first time I've seen this. aNd i hope the last.

If the previous user was lazy, wouldn't he have put the nozzle back while still discharging? I still suspect malice.

The pump should not have turned on while the nozzle was in the lock position. The pump should have been off, period.

Clearly a malfunction with the pump

That's sucks. I go crazy when gas spills out of the filler and drifts down the side, but that is no where near this. I feel you pain man.

X2 although that's a lousy way to taint the car
