Default NEw clutch at only 16,700 miles

Damn, these Honda clutches suck. I've been told that I need a new clutch, after only 16,700 miles. I was wondering how far people have driven on their original clutches.

Honda corporate is probably not going to help replace this, since it is considered a wear item, and they usually just blame the driver for riding the clutch. I called them anyway to see if they'd be willing to help, but I'm not holding my breath.

Guess if I do need a new clutch, I'm definitely not putting anothe Honda one in. If they only last about 16,000 miles, I'm going to put something else in. Maybe ACT or Star.

For people that have replaced heir clutch, is it normal to only get 16,000 miles on one??

Guys, no offense or anything, but what are you doing to wear it out so quickly? I'm a young guy at 18 years old, but I've driven 60,000 KM (37,000 miles) on 3 different manual trans. cars (2000 Civic, 2002 RSX Type S and 2001 S2000) and none of them have ever shown any sort of signs of wear.

MarkS2K - here is some good news though. If you havn't had TSB-0054 or whatever done yet, you can probably at least get your new clutch installed for free.

My car has that horrible deceleration noise. So I asked the service manager what their policy would be about installing an aftermarket clutch instead of replacing it with a Honda clutch and they said no problem

I'm sure your dealership would do the same for you.

Hey koala - I've been just driving around like normal. No launches or anything. That's why it bothers me so much that the clutch would just wear out that quickly.

I'm definitely going to replace it wth an aftermarket clutch. I'm looking at Mingster's website now, and he has some good deals on ther STAR clutch. Guess I'll be calling him soon.

I don't know how Canadian Honda is, but American Honda really sucks when it comes to replacing something under a TSB. I'm really not expecting them to help out at all and will be pleasantly surpised if they do.

Damn Mark, are you riding the clutch alot? I got over 34,000 miles on my original clutch and it could've gone alot longer. I just had it replaced under warranty because of the rattling.

You should be able to get at LEAST 60,000 miles out of your stock clutch if it isn't defective and it is driven properly.

Sorry to hear that... must be bad luck then.

I don't think it has anything to do with Honda Canada or American Honda. It really has to do with talking to your local dealer and working it out with them. They're getting paid to perform TSB-0054. When they write up the work order, whos to say they can't do some creative billing?

My dealer said no problem, simply because they're in there doing the work anyway. Its not any different for them to install an aftermarket clutch as opposed to the OEM clutch.

Give it a try... the labour is more than the clutch its self (or about the same I think).

I'll see if I can work something out with the dealer.

You're not kidding about the labor. When I saw he price quote, they quoted $800 for parts, and $1000 for labor!!!!!

Hey Doug - you know I drive like a grandma

Nope, it's my3rd actually. In fact, my current Prelude has over 80,000 miles on it, and it's still on the original clutch.
