I'd never buy another engine. I would just get a used s2k. There are more garage queens that road warriors.

funny how a SC fan device costs more than an engine and trans.

as if the s2k engine wasn't awesome enough, its a crazy bargain if anything bad ever happens.

I wouldn't put the AP1 engine into the catagory of being a "reliable honda."

i'd say the ap1 is pretty reliable... my car is well over 1xx,xxx miles and i have yet to have a problem with it aside from the bearings starting to wear down in the tranny which i'm fixing myself next week. I'm not exactly light with this car either. And yes, its' my daily.

if you dont check the oil or overrev you will kill it.

thats the case with any engine.

but when modifry got 167k out of his motor with a good portion of them supercharged, i'd have to say the F20C is a decent motor.

Used engine + installation ~$4-5k.
my motor has a rod knock right now and im getting a new short block from honda (ap1=2.5k) and refreshing my head (~$500) plus labor (~1k) about 4k. i had to choice to purchase a used ap2 motor(long block) for 3.5k but i'd rather go with new OEM, never know wht the previous owner did to it.

And your explanation for this is....? I've seen alot of Ap1s with well over 100k miles, autocrossed, tracked, clutch drops, Forced inductions, etc. and with no problems. As long as it was cared for, you shouldn't have any problems. As this applies to all cars. Most engine failures is caused by neglect by owners. Ap2s are still fairly new, so of course you'll would see more Ap1s breaking down. But doesn't mean their less reliable. Just that the Ap2 hasn't been in the market as long as Ap1s.
