Default New guy with ? about tops.

Hi. Considering buying one of these fine cars, and would like to know if the tops are always power, or are some manual, and do they come with zip out windows? Are the windows glass or plastic or can they be either? Thanks.

2000-01 came originally with plastic rear windows, but some have been retrofitted with the newer top.
2002+ all came with glass windows.
IIRC, the plastic windows have a zipper, but they can't be simply zippered open.
All soft tops came powered.

Thanks for that speedy response. What do you mean by they have a zipper, but can't be zippered open? I have a couple of Miatas, and on those cars you can unzip the sides and top of the window so it is attached only at the bottom, and fold it into the interior. It's a nice feature on hot, sunny days because you can leave the top up to shade the sun, yet get much more ventilation. Can you do that with the S2K?

You can roll down the windows, it's awesome. Shades you from the sun cause unless you have tinted windows it makes little difference.

My understanding is that the plastic rear window cannot be unzipped for ventilation like the Miata. I think it's held in by a zipper, but it's difficult to get to and I believe involves separating some other material or adhesive that creates a seal. Someone else may have more detail.

Personally, I've got an '05 with the glass window, and it's fixed within the top material.

It's even more awesome if you roll down the windows and open up the rear window. It's like a Jeep with a bikini top.

A bikini top on a Jeep is one of those fabric tops that only covers the top, with no sides or rear. Goes between the roll bar and windshield. http://tops4less.com/jeep-bikini-tops.html
