i'd say just stick with the original blackS2000 is right, you get what you pay for so why not spend the extra little bit of cash to get something of better quality? unless you're in a real rush to get it...
i quote my other car enthusiast friend "BOO to the replicas!"

No, the hardware can not be bought for 560. That is only the OEM hardware for the car. The hardtop needs alot of other OEM hardware. Here, let me list a few of the other parts needed.
  • Seals for both windows
  • Seals for the rear where the top meets the rear desk.
  • Rear latches for both sides
  • Front latches
  • Rear window and Seal (This is not part of the HTG Kit, and Not OEM)

The parts I listed are all part of the kit I linked to on HTG web site for 1,349.00. That is all of the hardware you will need. No lie.
Also 900 is an auction and and 1199 is the Buy it now price. But even at 900 it still totals 2250 + 150 (shipping). So that brings the total to 2400. There is a Mugen GB now for 2750 shipped.

So the real question is, is 300 worth it or not? I bet it is closer to 150 after you buy the rear window and seals.

Personally, I don't think is it. But since others are considering it, I thought I would point out the unwritten costs. I am sure someone will buy it and after it is all said and done and the final numbers tallied, they will not want to admit they could have got the real thing for just 2% more. Do a seach, you will not find 1 post with someone saying what a fool they were buying a knock off and could have got the real thing for a few buck more. No one want to admit it, I know I sure would not.

Note: I left the prime and paint of of these numbers. Both the Mugen and this copy both need it, so the cost is a wash either way.

I think 1200 or 900, what ever the price is a lot for a bare top. it includes nothing. Maybe the pictueres don't serve the justice to the top but it looks crappy to me. I say spend the money and do it right. If you are looking to save money on a hard top maybe you could go to a salvage yard and cut an old top off a Cadillac and jb weld it onto your S.

Your right on with your assessment. Its worth the couple hundred extra to get the OEM or FRP Mugen IMO.
