This spy photo shows a new version of the S2000 designed to beat the new offerings from BMW and its primary competition from Porsche, the Boxster S. Following the same philosophy of the "S" versions of the RSX, TL and CL, this "S" version of the popular Honda roadster offers increased horsepower and improved handling. The female test driver reported fast lap times at Roebling Road, GA, easily keeping pace with other performance cars such as the Acura NSX. Although improved, the handling still has a tendency for oversteer, particularly in turn 4 .

Actually, I own 50% of a traditional Honda S 2000 and 50% of the new "improved" Honda 2000 S. And as other "test drivers" ****cough****Coral Doc*** at Roebling Road that day showed that the S2000 had slight difficulties maneuvering turn 4 at high speeds.
I had SOOOOOO much fun!

And here's the other "half" of Deb's special car:

The event WAS a blast.

Wasn't the same instructer in each of our cars when they spun ... too bad he isn't on this board so that we can tease him too.

Yeah Yeah...let's blame the person who's not on the board

FYI: for anyone who just wanted to know: 4th gear redlines at about 120 mph.

This is the first I've seen evidence of an 'enhanced' S2000. (I have seen some mention in car magazines that Honda was working on a 'TypeR'/'TypeS' upgrade). Does anyone have more information on this car, how it differs from the base, what it might cost, when it might come to the US?

Thanks, Dave K.

Yeah, those wheel badge increase the wheel circumferential inertia, which results in a 20 horsepower gain

Hey Rick, My wheel badges must be broken because I didn't experience any HP gain?? Can I get another set that is not defective?

Well ... a significant increase in rotational inertia would result in some loss of HP to the wheels during acceleration. It could also show up as a loss of HP even in a steady state (high RPM) condition.
