I think it's a UV thing with the inside of the top.

Look at an older Miata with the top down. Most that have not used the boot will have gray material instead of black on the top's underside. The black carpet and seat material fade to gray with UV exposure as well. It doesn't take long in bright sunlight.

I think it provides for a much cleaner look.

Just took delivery of my S yesterday... but the dealer couldn't get the cover on! It really looks like the top is not going down all the way... so I am rather concerned.

I am going back tomorrow to let their technicians take a look at it to see if it really isn't going down all the way. Right now, it's nealy impossible to reach your hand down far enough to fasten the 4 snaps. Is this normal?

It does get easier with time. I found the trick was tucking the top that makes the corner on both sides, where the top side-arm hinge is. Once both sides are in place, it is much easier to install. Sorry if that sounds cryptic, don't know how to explain it...

Well, it makes the lines of the car look better. Looks great when you use the right stuff to make it nice and glossy (I use LRV). And a must if you want to keep the dust out of the arm mechanism, and the rear window (even though it's folded).

I cheat and only put on 2 of the snaps... just the outer 2...

so far, it works ok...

also, I covered the rear tabs on the cover with felt (leftover from my top well lining). The first time I put the cover on, it left light scratches on the back of the car...

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep the two rear tabs on the tonneu cover from coming loose at high speeds. When I drive on the highway the cover wants to lift out and the two black tabs dont hold the rear of the cover down.
I keep this cover on at all times since I have the S2000 car cover to protect from UV. I also use the Window Roll Tube thingy and Muz Mat to prevent scratches and creases.

Thanks
