Default New S2000 Owner

I am a recent 2007 S2000 owner (less than a month now) and I have this problem. It seems that I can't drive normally. I bought this car for my weekend cruiser, but I find myself driving it some most of the time. Just yesterday, I got it on from 2nd gear with a newer SVT Cobra Mustang (yea, I know that I could't beat it), but it was fun trying and I just wanted to see how it did against it.
Well, in the process, I hit the rev-limiter 3 times (....gas shut-off)......ouch! Hopefully, this doesn't hurt the engine much.

I am trying hard not to drive it so hard, but that's not easy to do, she just wants to go fast! (oh, my other work vehicle is a 2011 Honda Pilot EX-L 4x4) and its a slow machine.

Does it get any better, after owning one of these for a while?
Will I ever drive slower and normal?

How is anyone going to tell you whether you will change or not? You blame the car but the car isn't driving itself. Take it to the track.

If you hit the rev-limiter 3 times racing someone starting in 2nd, that puts you well above speed limits (maxing 4th)

Hopefully you'll just get a reckless ticket and chill the f@#k out.

*edit*

And trust me, one or two $300+ dollar tickets will have you in order.

Seriously... GTFO the streets..... There are people out there with families, small children, etc. like myself that would get out and beat the ever living shit out of you if you ever hurt any of them due to your dumb ass driving like a maniac and racing on the street. /rant

Do be cautious with the car...you don't want to cause an accident or get hit with massive fines by the police.

That being said, the excitement with the S2000 doesn't die, but only gets controlled a little better. I'll admit that when I see an on ramp, I get excited about the prospect of pushing into VTEC. The car is fun, but have fun safely.

Hitting the rev-limiter won't really hurt anything as long as you aren't doing it all day long. Learn the cars shiftpoints and maybe get some track time (or at least read up on the car's limits and capabilities on this forum) before pushing it on the streets.

After getting a few tickets, changing the tires at least once a year and driving it in the snow, you will chill out.

Am I the only one that was giving him the benefit of the doubt that he may have just meant he managed to bounce it off the rev limiter three times at the top of second before shifting to third?

It is a possibility.

Let me rephase that.
Im am a 59m (yes, I bought the car for my mid-life crisis).
Yes, I've owned other fast cars of there time, mostly those from the 70's.
Yes, I did race another car, but I do drive responsibly.
I do not race in and out of traffic like some idiots do!
The race was on a 8 line hiway during mid-afternoon and there were no body else on he road at the time.
Yes, I did hit the rev-limiter shifting from 2nd to 3rd and from 3rd to 4th, I was wrong stating that I hit the rev-limiter 3 times. And I blame myself for doing that, for just not having enough time in the car yet.
Yes, I do drive it hard sometimes, like pulling unto the interstate and getting up to highway speed.

I do not race or exceed the much over the speed limit when around other traffic .

I have driven a car since I was 16yr old (guess that works out to 44 years of driving). And I can truly say that I've never been in an accident thats been my fault! Although I've had other people run into me, mostly at stop lights, can avoid that in big towns.

I didn't want to piss anybody off, thinking that I was a hell bound maniac car driver from the "fast and furious".

I just want to make a light-hearted comment of how much fun driving a Honda S2000 was. Maybe it just didn't come out that way.

Haha. First of all, welcome!!
I can't speak for your age (as I am only 29). But I've had this car for about 4 years and 7 months now .
And I did put about 60k miles since then. It is my DD No accident, a few speeding tickets.

If I put my excitement in scale, it was 100 when I first got it. And now is about 70~80 ish
The fun doesn't simply go away.

All I can say is.. Please drive all you want, and it will still be super fun after 5 years. (and beyond I hope)

It is not a fast car. But there's something special about this car. After owning it for almost 5 years and putting over 60k miles, I still can't find what it is. But the taste only gets deeper. Please enjoy, and again welcome aboard sir
