Default New S2000 Owner with a question................

How crucial is it to not go over the 5500rpm during the break in period of first 600 miles? I could not wait to check out the cars power and broke it several times.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

It is recommended in your manual not to, I'd say it is pretty important. Take it wasy on the car. 600 miles in nothing. You can tear into it all you want in a short time. My $.02

Be patient and wait. Honda states that it is crucial to break it in properly. Failure to do so and you or some poor fool will probably be stuck with a problem down the road. Read your manual thoroughly and do searches here for more info. Check your oil frequently and just take it easy at first. Understand your car and treat it well. Have fun.

Go to the "shortblock replacement" thread for your answer.

It's the longest 600 miles of my life. Funny thing is, the salesman implored me to get on it during the test drive, said they added synthetic oil to reduce wear during break-ins. Go figure.

Yeah, your salesman is an idiot! You don't put synthetic in an s2000 until at least the first if not the second oil change. Read your manual that it even states that the original oil is different to catch any debris that might form from the new engine breaking in. There is controversy on whether or not the s should ever have fully synth oil in it.

it's sort of a silly thing to decide to go beyond 5.5k then come here and ask about it *AFTER* the fact.

Just out of curiosity, exactly how far beyond 5,500 did you go?
