Default New s2k coming - question on recall.

Getting an oo s2k in 2 weeks, ive just read a rumor that there was a "spark plug kit" recall on this car.

How can i determine if this is true or do you know of any of this to be true?
Should this be covered on the car regardless year or mileage?

I dont know if the previous owner ever had it done.

I don't think there was ever a recall on the s2k, maybe a TSB. If it's a TSB it's up to Honda on whether they'll cover it and I wouldn't bet my life on it. The coil packs aren't all that expensive or hard to replace. It's a 10 minute job.

Also they changed torque specs on the spark plugs from 5psi to 17psi.

Spark plugs were recalled. New washer and torque spec. Old plugs were backing out = very bad news. You can get this done regardless of year and warranty. Your local honda dealer should be able to pull your VIN and tell you if the the recall was performed.

vtec9 is 100% correct.

Another couple ways you might be able to tell - as part of the recall, Honda issued stickers indicating the new torque specs for the plugs. The dealers were instructed to put the stickers in the owners manual on the page with the old plug torque specs. On my car, which didn't have the manual in it during the work, the dealer put the stickers on the crossmember in the engine bay just in front of the radiator.

as mentioned it will say on the spark plug and also looking in the manual is not 100% because the publisher had put a sticker on my manual that I ordered.

a few other things to question and/or complete:

tsb on the rear axle nuts - free

tsb on the oil squirters (affects early ap1 cars - the severity of getting this done is your call, but something to look into)

When you get the car, register it on Honda's Owners Link site. It will tell you what recalls have been done or need to be for your VIN.

Interesting - my AHM page only lists the tail lights, seat belt retractor, and boot cover. I wonder if, since the spark plug recall wasn't a NHTSA safety issue, it's handled different in Honda's systems?
