Do a search in the manual and tell me where honda says synthetic is no good.

If you search you will find a Honda TSB that advises owners not to use synthetic oil for the first 7500 miles to allow proper break-in. It's not in the manual.

berzerQer 06-01-2005 05:43 AM

yeah, i've seen it

IIRC the tsb is from 2002, if its that important, why hasn't it been added to the owners manual and/or let every S2000 owner know about it?

exceltoexcel 06-01-2005 05:59 AM

I doubt its THAT important, but its better. Either way this is a big todo about nothing. That engine will be perfectly fine from the use of synth. I'd be more worried about his accidental misshifts :)

:iagree:

Where in the owners manual does it say not to use synthetic? nowhere

It only says to change the oil every 3750 or 7500 miles, so if he changed to synthetic at ~3750 miles he's just following what the manual says. Whats the big deal here? :banghead:

Honda said you should NOT use synthetic if you change the oil at 3750. the main reason being the FRM cylinder walls taking longer to breakin.

It's a bigger deal than you think. If you use synthetic too soon, you will likely shorten engine life in the long run. The engine will not break in properly.

I'm amazed how people can scoff at this so much in the face of proof from so many people here!

berzerQer 06-01-2005 09:09 AM

Why is it that I've only seen that "S2000 Oil Consumption" clip on this site and was never informed by the dealer or honda about this? No reading material included with the car says anything about this, so how would anyone know that synthetic is supposedly harmful to your engine? Also, the clip only states this is a problem with the 00-01 models, if this was such a major problem then why haven't they since included this information in the 02/03/04/05 owners manuals?

Where is all this proof from so many people here?

You guys crack me up.

This may be irrelavant. But take a look at this photo.

GT3 spec motor. Brand new went into this car at ALMS Mid Ohio.
They poured in fully synthetic Mobil 1 motor oil into this brand new $54,000 engine which was shipped to them the day before.

I really don't know what the big deal is
