i finally got my s2k in june after searching for the right one for about 4 months. it's a berlina black 2000 s2000 (that is what bby2ks2k means). i bought if from a seattle doctor that never drove it (3443 miles on the odo) and who let it go for $27,750. i absolutely love this car. exclusive, fast, reliable, excellent fit and finish, good gas mileage, beautiful and easy to maintain (like you guys didn't know that). i do have a few questions that maybe one of you can help me with...
1. how many s2000s did honda import for 01' and how many are planned for 02. if i understand correctly, 6227 were imported for 00'. also does anybody know the breakdown as far as how many of each interior/exterior color combination were made for each year?
2. in a recent issue of autoweek, they said the s2k's engine is handbuilt. this is the only place i have read that. is this true?
3. does enkei make the wheels for the s2k? i recently saw a supra with enkei wheels that had a symbol cast into the wheel that looks like a capitalized cursive "JU". my s2k has the same symbol cast into the wheels by the valve stem.
4. has anybody ever had a bird crap in the car with the top down. i recently had a close call, luckily it didn't make it any further than the windshield.
5. how does the veilside tonneau cover attach? do you have to drill holes?
6. anybody know where i can get a good seat cover. i know, i know, i know, why do you want to cover the seat, they're so nice. that is exactly it, they're so nice that i don't want to wear them out and i intend on covering only the drivers seat.
7. has anybody had their s2k confused for a mustang? this recently happened to me. i wanted to smack the guy.
8. anybody out there have more then 50,000 miles or know somebody with more than 50,000 miles on their s2k? if so, what problems if any have you/they encountered.
I'll answer to #8 - I have 65k+ on my car and have had no significant problems. Some people have had problems with their car and in most cases Honda has covered them under warranty. If the car has made it this far without significant issues it's probably fine. Welcome to the board.
Wow! You do have a lot of questions. Good for you. To answer what I can. Others will fill in the spaces I'm sure.
1. You should look in the "library". You'll find this tab up above. Your question is answered there.
2. The car is handbuilt in the same factory as the NSX. Don't know if the engine is handbuild or not.
3. Don't know.
4. Bird crap inside - there are even pics of this on the forum. You might try a search to locate the thread it's in. WARNING: the picture looks like crap!
5. Don't know.
6. I would think any auto supply store would have them. The driver's seat side botlsters will, in time, get really wrinkly and worn looking very quickly. Use leather conditioner on those parts often and liberally to slow it down.
7. The S2000 has been mistaken for lots of other cars - MB SLK, Miata. A lot of observers simply don't know what it is.
8. Besides Strike, there are quite a few "high mileage" units belonging to members of this board. Mine is NOT one of them even though it's a daily, 4 seasons driver. Those with problems will always surface on this forum because that's what such forums do - they allow people to bring these sorts of things to other's attention. On the most part, the general population of owners have very few issues.
2. in a recent issue of autoweek, they said the s2k's engine is handbuilt. this is the only place i have read that. is this true?
much of the entire car is handbuilt as is indicated in dan carney's book- page 53 for example, says that the car is "hand built at the same plant in tochigi, japan, that constructs the nsx ". a few members of this site have toured that plant.
7. has anybody had their s2k confused for a mustang? this recently happened to me. i wanted to smack the guy.
confused for lots of cars- especially since mine has all "s" badges on it. never a mustang though!
4) now that would suck. fortunately, i can't tell you about it from personal experience, but i would imagine it wouldn't be very fun!
6) i don't know of any good seat covers... but i would think that anything less than reupholstering the seats would detract from the lateral grip of the seats, mainly the "stickiness" of the current leathers. with that said, i do not recommend them; i'm thinking that the seat covers are simple held down with velcro or some fancy strap; thus, it wouldn't hold very well. but that's just my opinion.
7) my car's been mistaken to be miatas, a fiero with body kit, the bmw z, but never a mustang - that must be the worst, though.
8) i've got almost 70kmi on my baby (~65k racked up by yours truly) and I've had no significant problems - none of those ever-popular loose spark plugs, etc. I think I drive my S pretty hard - VTECing quite often - but haven't experienced anything worse than cupped tires. I think I'm the only one that had some S02s that had some moderate cupping. Errr... anyone else?

XVIPER, I LOOKED IN THE LIBRARY AND COULD NOT FIND THE INFORMATION TO QUESTION #1. WHERE EXACTLY IS IT?
Sorry for the misinformation! I thought it was in there. I think it was cthree (forum admin.) who posted this in a thread. Maybe PM him for those numbers.
Seat covers:
Wet Okole makes some custom fits that fit great. Solid Black would probably be a good choice for you. I have a suzuka blue, and got their covers in black with ocean camo insert--they're growing on me, but I was shocked and almost puked when I opened the box. They cost around $250 for a pair, don't know if they do singles. One of these days, I'll take a full pic, but here's a quickie:
I have the dealer (Florida) link of the group buy, they were $200, but that was months ago: HTTP://WWW.AUTOACCESSORIESRUSFL.COM . Check the "Group buys" forum, maybe, for a new group buy, if not, it will have a "code" for the group buy, and maybe the dealer will honor it. You can e-mail the dude and maybe he'll give you a break.
Be sure to check out the Pacific Northwest Owners club. We get together fairly often, which is a great chance to ask questions and see modifications in person. One of the Seattle owners has a set of those Wet Okole seat covers, in red and black.
