Default New tires causing rear to swing?

Yokohama AVS ES100 245Z40-17 91W
I purchased new rear tires for MY04 a couple days ago and I noticed I have extra play on my backside now. The best way to describe how the car controls is to say that the tire pressures are off. At first they were off, I put all my tires on 32 psi. The front ones are still stock. Fixing the pressures did help, but something still doesn't seem right. Should I let them break in some more and then see if the problem persists? Are these crappy tires?

I was thinking that since my rear tires are new and the front stock ones have like 20K miles on it, the difference in tread might cause this. They guy at the shop said that these tires have less traction than the stock ones, so thats what might be causing the problem. What do you guys think?

I ask this because these tires really changed the ride of the car...all the bumps in the road cause my rear to just swing around left and right. I thought these were good tires.

No wonder!
Es 100 YOKO are not in the same league.
Sidewalls are a lot softer.
You should use the same tire front and back.

I've heard from a couple of people that those particular Yoko's tend to tramline on our car. I'm sure you have a major traction mismatch between the front and rear 's 20K vs. New , Lower vs. Higher Treadwear rating, I would expect it to drive like crap.
I'm sure if you put new ES100's on the front and got an alignment it would feel much better. IMO though it's hard to beat the RE050's it's just a shame they are SO expensive.
You probably should ask a mod to move this over to 'Tires and Wheels' Many people who have mismatched front and rear pairs have experienced problems, and some have even posted about crashing. I'd get new fronts ASAP, Tires are expensive but not something to skimp on.

They got it right. You've gotta have the same type of tire all around. Mis-matching is NO GOOD.

Also, give any new tire about 500 miles before you push the performance/grip aspect. There are releasing agents used in the manufacturing process that take a while to wear off - like grease.

Be careful until you get new fronts.

I have this same problem too but i have the same tires all around but teh backs are new RE050 and the fronts are the same but with 30k on it, it has abotu 3-4th/32nd tread in the fronts. Is that why my back end would swing out. I let a friends brother drive my car and he said that my car didnt handle that well and that his RX-8 handled better. I was little upset that he said that because i know the S has to handle better then his 8, but i guess it could be the tires.

Make sure your tires are torqued properly.

I have the same problem. S02's in the front, 245 S03's in the rear. The rear end feels sluggish and delayed. I'm just waiting to wear them out to get 4 new of the same. I miss my S02's in the rear.

In defence of the Yoko's, I've got to say their great tires! Even when I replaced all 4 tires with the Yoko's they felt squirly in the rear until the mold release wore off at about 500 miles. I experience absolutely no tramlining and they ride excellent, much smoother than the S-02's. They do give up a little bit in dry traction, but are better in every other way. Just my opinion.

I would definitely mount the same tires on the front too!
