Default New Top for my S2000, Cloth or Hardtop

Folks,

This forum helped me navigate getting new tires for my 2002 S2000. I now need a new top. What would ya'll recommend for a new fabric top. And would you go with a hard top?

I live in NorCal and typically put about 5000 miles/year on my car, usually with the top down.

Thanks for your help........ Emil

I wouldn't go for the hardtop. They're ridiculously expensive, you stated that most of your driving is with the top down, and having lived in both Mountain View and Santa Clara, I know how nice the weather is in Northern California. Save yourself the money and only go with the cloth top. I recently replaced my cloth top with a high quality aftermarket cloth top from a reputable shop near where I live but I don't know the manufacturer. And go take a drive on Hwy 9 from Saratoga to Santa Cruz for me! That road is a riot and there's nothing like it in Illinois!

Happy with my Robbins cloth replacement convertible roof. Skilled installation is vital.

Second the Robbins top. It is 100% improvement in both look and function.

So would you go with the Robbins top? What material would you chose? They give you 4 options.

Sincerely,

Emil

I don't remember what it's called but I got the fabric one - not the vinyl one.

Why do many opt for the cloth top as opposed to the OEM style vinyl top or vinyl Robbins, etc? Doesn't a cloth top require more upkeep?

The Haaartz ST Stayfast cloth is acrylic which is very durable. For example Sunbrella (tm) marine fabric -- the typically blue fabric you see on boat bimini tops and sail covers and the awnings in front of boutique shops -- is also acrylic and lasts for decades outdoors all year round.

Never seen the Robbins vinyl as it seems "everyone" chooses the cloth. The black color is very deep and took 14 years off the look of my 2006. As for 4 Robbins choices there are really just 2 unless you want a blue or red roof. I debated (for maybe a minute) getting a grey roof for my Silverstone car.

Sounds like I'm on commission for Robbins. Not. My sample of one (1).
