Default Newb 00-01 Plastic Window question

Hey sorry in advance for the newb question as I'm sure it's been covered a bunch of times but the search engine on this forum isn't too great so I haven't found my answer. Some work will be done to my garage so the S will have to stay outside for a couple nights. I have an older AP1 with the plastic window so I was wondering if the cold will cause the window to crack even if I'm not lowering the top. I checked the forecast and it seems like it will get as low as 30 degrees sometime this week. Will that be cold enough to cause the plastic to crack on its own? Thanks in advance!

you shouldn't have any problems with it cracking unless you lower it when it's real cold out, or if you're wiping snow off too hard.

Be very weary of opening and closing the top when it's cold, that's what did it for my window (I live in CA, so it wasn't freezing or anything).
There are threads that show how to replace the plastic window, but most including me just replace the entire top with a glass one (I used a robbins top, pay to have someone do it unless you're used to dismantling cars).

nope. The window will be fine in cold weather. Just don't lower the top when it's cold.

I believe it states in the manual not to lower the top when it is below 50 degrees outside. I drove mine thru 2 winters on a daily basis. The window will absolutely not crack from just being cold. I used to back hand my window while driving to get the ice off of it. It never affected it. However.....you absolutely can not fold the cold window in half (a.k.a. dropping the top) and expect it not to break.

So to sum up. Letting it sit outside all day in Alaska will not harm the window. Letting it sit outside all day in Alaska, and then putting the top down, will most certainly crack the window.

If it is iced over, don't try to break the ice by hitting the top...that can shatter the plastic along with the ice.

I think you'll be fine.
Mine's a model year 2000 and has been parked outdoors it's whole life. The window is original and hasn't cracked yet (knock on wood).

The plastic window cracked on mine this past spring when I lowered the top. Outside temp was maybe 55deg, *definitely* above 50.
