Default Newbie presentation and a question

Hi all, I am H from the Dc area (north Va) and I just picked up my new 05 today! I was in the market for just two days. My biggest "mistake" was to do a test drive last Sunday. I was hooked the moment I pushed the start button!!!! I had to have the car so luckly I got a very good price from the dealer (invoice price $29,640) and it was done. That and the fact that was I a bit sick of driving my gf's beetle did the trick.

I just picked it up today and I have a question regarding my new baby. The car has only 16 miles on it and I am afraid of pushing to hard at the begining. What is the minimum mileage I need to do before getting serious with it? I think I have read 600 miles somewhere here but I can't find that post now.

Anyway, thanks for the help and hopefully see you on the road...

Congrats

The manual says not to go above 5,500 rpm until 600 miles. You may consider using varying rpm's to seat the rings good. I VTEC'ed the first day, but for a very brief amount of time as I shifted from low gear right away. I think I reached 9k rpm at about 4-5 hundred miles. Again, for a very brief amount of time. I didn't really even begin to push until I was at about 900 miles. At 1,200 miles, I opened it up in 5th gear. I did the same at 2k, 4k and 6k miles.

I have 11,400 miles and she runs like a thoroughbred racehorse

EDIT: The above method was done with my discretion. The results may vary from car to car, and is attributed to the discretion and technique of the driver.

ok thanks. I guess too excited to even pay attention to the manual. I guess I will have to take it easy until I get to the 600 miles mark. In any case I LOVE the engine noise even at 5k rpm!

Take the airbox cover off and you'll like it even more. Then get a cold air intake

welcome to the family... make sure you check out the MID-Atlantic forum.... we are your home forum.. i'll probably see you around on the streets somewhere....

as for the car... dont' change your oil till you hit around 4500 to 5000 miles... and don't rev it hard (redline) till you hit 900 miles....

Take some time to........

Sit down and read the owners manual Front to back, page for page. Read all your paperwork, warranties and maintenance schedules.

You'll answer a lot of your questions and you'll learn a lot about your new car.

Enjoy!!

Yes I did, I confess I have been driven a beetle for the past 9 months...but I redeem myself by entering s2000 heaven!

Thanks for the advice guys. I went for a short spin tonight to get use to the car feel, the controls, etc. What a feeling to drive this thing, I am speechless, no car I saw on the road got even close to my baby. Oh man can't wait to break the 600 miles limit and start using VTECH.

See you guys on the road.
