Hi, I'm new to the forum and looking to buy an S2000 in the next week or so. I'm coming from Mini Coopers and Subarus and want to get into something fun with RWD.

I've been looking at the classifieds here, autotrader, CL, etc but prices seem to be all over the map in this economy with some people needing to unload and some who seem to be out of touch with the current market.

Could I get pricing opinions on these two cars I'm looking at locally? Assume both have clean titles and no significant problems.

2002 85k miles, Silver w/black interior, recent clutch - $10,750

2001 25k miles, Silver w/ red interior - $14,500

If either these prices seem high what do you think would be reasonable?

 

based off the option given I say skip them both. 14k for a 7 year old car is mighty expensive. Just keep looking for an ap2 and spend a few more grand getting one. If you're buying a 10 year old car why not get the model with the updates and refresh look?

also this very subjective, but skip any silver color or black s2000 since they are very common at least in my area where black and silver are getting very common and affordable where as white, yellow red and laguna blue are rare.

 

I'd like to get an ap2 but I'm trying to stay as close to $10k as possible. Any S2000 is pretty rare where I'm at in Wisconsin, so it's not like I'm seeing silvers and blacks at every other stoplight

 

i'd stick with the 2002 model vs. the 00-01 because they had a lot of updates including the glass rear window. I bet you could get that 02 for 9500-10K which isnt too bad of a price. I paid exactly 10K for my 02 s2k last year and it had 74K miles plus that one has a new clutch.

 

That's a great price on that 02 I think. And if you could get the owner of the 01 to come down in price a little that might be pretty appealing as well.

 

seeing that you like to get an ap2 just aim for it. you will be very satisfy if you get one. don't go cheap just so that you can get an alternative.

 

I'm starting to lean towards the 02 for the glass rear window, other 02 changes and the lower price. I figure if I get an ap1 now then I can get an ap2 in a few years when they are less expensive.

 

ap2 has def got its percs. but i settled for an ap1 based on my price range to spend at the time, wanting of the car, and the 9k red line

The 2002 one looks very appealing. And there is nothing wrong with an AP1. It isn't "subpar" as dn7309 is making it out to be. (And turning this into an AP1 vs AP2 debate would be pointless and dumb b/c there is no winner). Offer below $10k for the 02 and see where it goes. You won't be disappointed.

 

$10K for an S2000 in mint shape with 85K miles is a steal.

I sold my mint 2001 Honda Prelude for $10,500 back in April and it had 85K miles on it. The S2000 cost $8-9K more than the Prelude when both were new! You're getting amazing value buying a used AP1 this year. Only thing that sucks is selling my S2000 for something newer isn't going to happen for a long time because of the drop in values of these cars recently.
