Default nicks in paint

Does anybody have any trouble with small rocks chipping the paint?
I have a new S2000 (2002) with the new silver and red interior. 711 miles and two nicks. What I can't understand is why the passenger door has the biggest hit.
Could it be that the paint sucks or is it normal for California because of the bad roads and SUV combination?
If anybody knows anything or you have the same problem, please let me know.

same problem here! within 3 days of ownership of my Spa '02 I had a nasty stonechip on my hood to the metal. I am now very cautious about following trucks and other vehicles without mudguards, and pretty much just keep my distance from others regardless.

As for solutions, you can always get the Stonguard treatment, or can use touchup paint properly. Search the site for both of these words and you should get plenty or return hits.

In the snow belt areas, it's worse!

Stay a good distance from cars in front of you especially RWD and AWD or cars with no rear mud flaps.

Stones can also be thrown sideways from the car next to you...

Following Lane during and early November drive, I got smacked in the HEAD with a rock he threw up - got a few small dings as well, but nothing to the metal... sticky tires!

You learn not to tailgate quickly!

I have a few chips. Unavoidable on Detroit roads. The first chip is the most painful. I too have been dinged in the head, but I stick up above the roll bars (6'3"). Bought some touch up paint (new formula red) that is truely lousy. It seems to have too much thinner. Anyone else have a problem with touch-up paint. Never had this problem with other honda/acura paints. I have a hard time filling in the chips and I can go back months later and wipe off all the paint. Actually bought 2 bottles with same results

Sounds very painful .

The only paint chips on my S were created during track events...
I'm going to get some kind of ugly bra for such events.

I have a lot of chips in the front of my car now. Some people have the opinion that the paint on the car is very thin.

You can protect it with something like Stoneguard, but it's very expensive. On some colors, the clear platic protection will dull the color a bit.
